WASHINGTON -- For her own Women's History Month assignment, first lady Michelle Obama visited Anacostia High School, on the poor side of town, where on Thursday she surprised a group of students. One of her goals is to demystify the White House and make it more accessible to the people who live here.
Mrs. Obama told the youngsters she felt isolated from an institution in her own community when she was growing up and that she suspected they may view the White House and the Capitol the way she saw the University of Chicago as a young girl -- a place for other people. She shared her story of how she was taunted for talking "like a white girl."

have you seen carlton dance yet? It’s hysterical...but it’s suppose to be insinuating that white people can’t dance,...similar to the white people can’t play bball etc..
frankly, I’ve never seen any white person dance like carlton unless they are older than 50 and really really drunk at a wedding. :)
No, but it sounds like an interesting book. I enjoyed a book that was written in the 60’s, I think it was called “black like me”...in which a white reporter goes under cover in the black world. He shaved his head, took skin darkening pills, used yes....shoe polish to make himself look black so he could understand their lifestyle. It’s well worth the read..... regardless of your political stance.
This white girl would like to smack the crap out you Mrs. Hussein

LOL..my sentiments also. I’d pay money for that.
Yeah, the dance is funny. And Eddie Murphy had it down pat when he mimicked how white people dance (like Carlton) and that’s pretty much it. We have about one move. LOL!
I guess I get more offended when they mock how he talks. As if not speaking in ebonics is bad.
So I guess she means that she was criticized for speaking clear, understandable English? Well sheeeet. Whut up wi dat?
Tired of the race conversation....we have a black president...give it a rest.

You love it that Obongo has stolen the White House, don’t you?
We will NOT give it a rest. Death by a thousand paper cuts...
Are we interested? No
I have no clue as to what you mean?
If talking “white” means talking like a reasonably educated person, then I haven’t had a black friend who didn’t talk “white”.
You are not misunderstanding or missing anything......there is slang etc in the white culture too. It's just another way to create racial dividing lines...... by pointing it out in the news.
The irony of that is Will Smith’s rap music was mocked by many rappers for not showing the “black experience”. He said he was black and it was his experience.
death by a thousand cuts. Every little piece of legislation, every slam of this administration in the media, every tea party...pokes this narcissistic poser with a stick
Wifey and I taught at an Indian Village here in Alaska once. All day long, all I heard was dirty White People, no good White People, on and on. I'd tell the kids there was no place for racism in todays world, just not acceptable for America's future, ect ect. Finally, I lost it one day and told the Indians they were a 1000 years behind us White People and if we'd have given the Russians another 50 years, there wouldn't an Indian left in Alaska today. Only the truth, they come unglued; probably because they knew it was the truth. They got over it and quickly went back to hatin White People, ha ha; some things never change I guess. The way DC schools are going, I figure they'll finally catch it too.
oh ok..I think the foundation is beginning to crumble. And we are only 2 months in.
Remember, they seriously tried to make it okay to teach ebonics in schools in california. At least I think it was california...in the 90’s?
White people can dance, they have the moves. The disco days are over. What does frustrate me to all end is the refusual to admonish a certain segment of black society for making fun of white people. If they don’t like it done to them, they need to stop doing it to us..on tv, in the movies and in the news. Sick of it!!
I agree, the president’s race has nothing to do with anything. Being black will not help him fix the economy or defeat terrorists. But this was the first lady, and first ladies traditionally take up causes that are less partisan and closer to home: literacy and saying no to drugs, for example. In this case, she was talking to a bunch of predominantly black school kids from a poor part of Washington D.C. If she can show them that it’s okay for a black kid to speak proper English and study hard, that’s all to the good.
I remember Hillary Clinton talking like a black girl. It wasn't funny.
is that true? or does it relate to clinton being the first black president?
So if someone says that you “talk like a black girl”...is that racist?
yeah. well so what about her arms. Mine look better and if i knew how to post pics I’d prove it.
