TULSA, Okla. One of the most deadly spiders in the world has been found in the produce section of a Tulsa grocery store. An employee of Whole Foods Market found the Brazilian Wandering Spider Sunday in bananas from Honduras and managed to catch it in a container.
The spider was given to University of Tulsa Animal Facilities director Terry Childs who said this type of spider kills more people than any other.

There is a reason that modern agriculture has prolonged life with it’s safe and abundant food.

We have dozens of varieties of both bannas and spiders in Southeast Asia but nothing like this sucker. The motto in my house is “Neither eat nor be eaten by bugs”. However termites recently did a quick and devastating raid on our house - had to replace 2 door frames and a cuboard. House sitter didn’t notice until collapse.

If that picture in post 6 is the Brazilian wandering spider in question then I killed one in a basement in Medford NY in 1979. I heard a ‘plop’ behind me and the sound was so definitely SOMETHING that I looked hard enough to finally spot an enormous spider that differs in no way frome the one in the picture.

Australia has like what, four of the top ten deadliest spiders, and six of the top ten venomous snakes?
Guess that’s why you never see a pic of six thousand aborigines hanging around some rock somewhere.

Yes and I saw about 90% of them while I was living there. The first and last time I saw a Funnel Web Spider was when I was sitting on a “Dunny” (toilet). It looked at me just like that picture which it the threatening pose before attacking, and I killed it with a toilet brush. It wasn't the most pleasant bathroom experience of my life.

“Aside from causing intense pain, the venom of the spider can also cause priapism - uncomfortable erections that can last for many hours and lead to impotence. “
Getting bit by one of these things is gonna make for a hard time all the way around.

How are we supposed to check our bananas without running into a spider that might be hidden in the recesses? It won't be necessary for you to check any of your food after 0bama's 500,000 union food inspectors are on the job.
Socialized food inspectors coming soon to control the nations food supply.

I doubt the spider was living off bananas. What other big bugs come in with the bananas? They should add spiders to the ship cargo holds.
