The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.
President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.
Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.
He bowled a 129, the president said.
"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.
It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.
When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.
"The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world."
Facing tough questions about the performance of his Treasury Secretary, $165 million in bonuses for AIG officials and anticipating a fight over his $3.55 trillion budget, the president has not had a particularly good week, and it's unlikely this will help matters.

Tapper’s Twitter update this morning:
jaketapperPreparing for day of hypocrisy: conservs who would normally defend the SpecOlymp joke acting offended, liberals saying lighten up. Sigh
So he’s spending his days trying to keep up his nonexistent bowling skills when he should be running the country. Nice one.
Not suprising. Some people treat mental illnesses as if there is no such thing.
See what happens when he looks away from the teleprompter. David Axelrod must have been cringing. I hope the sound bite is used in ads against 0bama.
There is plenty to see here because I believe the POTUS should have the ability to think before he speaks. He needs to get off the tv, close down the bowling alley, forget the brackets, the dog, the garden, get serious about the position and job that the American people elected him to do. Be assured that if a Republican would have made that statement, all of the alphabets would have had Special Olympics spokespeople on at 7:00AM, denouncing his dangerous disregard to the mentally challenged.
He is the most egotistical lying pompous a$$h*le out there...
Thank you for saying that. I was thinking the same thing. Shame on this man who took for granted that his children do not require special needs. His only crave is attention. I hate this man and what he is doing to our country. Every day i get up and think, “Hey he can’t possibly do worse today?”. I am shocked at what i see and hear every day. Wake up America, Let’s take our country back from this Marxist thug from Kenya.
Obama even admitted he lies on the campaign trail——re: the comment about promising a dog to his kids. He said it was a ‘campaign promise’......intoherwords....not really meant.
Tapper is no conservative that’s for sure, but you can tell he likes tweaking the sycophantic Obamedia.
I’ve run out of words to describe my contempt for this (fill in the blank).
If Bush had said this...
Yeah. What Inauguration?
throws them?
Something else came to mind.
What makes it funny?
