I suppose he could be viewed as counseling insubordination to members of the armed forces, as he identifies himself as Annapolis ‘75 and rejects the authority of the C-in-C.

One of the greatest miracles of our democracy is the near absolute freedom from coercion by the military civilian leaders enjoy. Our top military leaders are acutely aware of the danger of “Bonapartism” and take pains to drill the notion of subordination to civilian authority into the officers of our armed forces.

I know people who came here from countries where the army picks the president and it really sucks.

Of course, there are implicit concomitant obligations of civilian leaders to respect the sacrifices of the military and the rights of private citizens. These are obligations of which 0bama seems serenely unaware.

I would not propose differently. However, it has become clear that we either stand together or hang separately in these anti-gun times. Should we abandon those otherwise law-abiding fellows whose unsociable manners or poor choice of words make them easy to dislike? I think not.

Should we even "buy" John Law's characterisation of a person or group who's sequestered in federal custody? Changes in laws WRT LEO custody since 11 Sept, 2001, allow the feds to hold the accused without communication with the outside, while the authorities are not barred from "releasing information" to the media. I see plenty opportunity to exploit the situation, and I don't trust this administration to restrain itself. Do you?
