Coach K disses Obama's basketball picks [Not really, cheap CNN spin]
CNN Political Ticker ^ | March 18, 2008 | Peter Hamby

Posted on 03/19/2009 4:17:44 AM PDT by MitchellC

Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski isn't thrilled his team got snubbed by the leader of the free world.

"Somebody said that we're not in President Obama's Final Four, and as much as I respect what he's doing, really, the economy is something that he should focus on, probably more than the brackets," Krzyzewski told a reporter from the Associated Press on Wednesday.

Don't you just love how CNN's Peter Hamby 'knew' what the 'real motivation' was for Mike Krzyzewski's criticism of Obama, which had nothing to do with Duke's placement on Barack's fantasy brackets, and everything to do with the fact that Barack is wasting time filling out fantasy brackets while we're supposedly on the brink of economic collapse?

Out of respect for Krzyzewski making a substantive criticism of Obama, and not the dumb, false 'diss' CNN reports, I hereby declare a 24-hour moratorium on dissing Duke, Tarheel fans.

It’s worth noting that Coach K is also a devout Roman Catholic. An often slippery term which I define myself these days; the parameters of which go something like this; gives outward sign of his Christian testimony through his life, attends Mass on a weekly basis and occassionally during the week, contributes time and resources to charities involved in promoting the Gospel and ABSOLUTELY DID NOT vote for Barack Obama.

If I were the president right now, I would probably have my brackets filled out. I would not share them with the press corps.

i disagree, i think the O should spend MORE time filling out brackets, maybe send some over to congress too.
the more occupied they are with non-political stuff, the less time they have to screw us.

Everyone is welcome to visit the FR NC state board. Sometimes it’s a Duke/UNC pissing contest.

I work with coach K almost every year; he’s deserving of great respect, if I may put it that way.

Obama is always seeking ways to find a common thread with the people while enjoying his elevation over much of humanity. I wish he would take more time studying the federalist papers.

My 14 year old is a HUGE Duke fan (and Coach K as well). So much so that when we last went on vacation (Myrtle Beach) we diverted inland on the way home and visited Duke. We got to walk into Cameron Indoor (awesome!!!)My son would love to go there for college (he is an honor student, but we don’t think we can $wing Duke at all). If you ever have any ‘K isms’ you would like to share, please FReep mail me...there is a HS b-baller up here in PA who would love to hear them :)

FRegards, PaMom

I dunno, Coach K...the more time he focuses on the economy, the worse it gets.

Better he mess around with tourney brackets....

“...and ABSOLUTELY DID NOT vote for Barack Obama.”

OK, that applies to you, as you say. But how do you have K go from “as much as I respect what he’s doing” to “ABSOLUTELY DID NOT vote for Barack Obama”? Sounds to me like K is Barry’s butt boy to me.

Maybe it would be better if we let bamer focus on hoops and were to get Coach K to focus on the economy?

“as I respect what he’s doing”

Remember, Coach K was at West Point.

I think folks like Coach K probably have a good bit of reverence for the office of president and that’s the kind of stuff that simply falls from the mouths of those who have a regard for the office ~ and who occassionally have a microphone jammed in front of their face for their opinion on stuff they might otherwise not want to discuss.

I won’t take him to task for prefacing the swipe, so as not to appear to have an agenda.

“Remember, Coach K was at West Point.”

So was Wesley Clark. But, more to the point. I think it would interesting to know if he is a lib. He looks like a lib. Talks like a lib. And smells like a lib. Not that I need another reason to dislike the ref worker...but it fits so nicely with my image of him.

Whatever. You must be thinking of the Libtards in Chapel Hill. Dean Smith and his ilk. Roy “Crybaby” Williams Asshole Jordan and Dougherty.

Anyone want to hear some good news?

I work with a bunch of Obama voters. In January, before the Super Bowl, there was a whole lot of talk about who Obama picked. Really. Not kidding here.

However, I've not heard word one yet about his brackets. I tried baiting a couple of guys this morning: "Did you see who Obama picked?" Either they weren't taking the bait, or just didn't care.

I think that the bloom is falling off the rose.

This brings back memories of a connection between Coach K and another US President, Bill Clinton. Y’all remember way back in ‘93, there was a convergence between the Bud Light “Yes, I am!” commercials, the NCAA finals, Coach K and Clinton?
