Gather candles, flashlights, etc. to luminate your home.

Yes, because no energy is used in the production or use of candles and flashlights.

Remind me next year that the Christmas lights don't come down until after March.

I plan to exceed the redline on my power meter by an exponent factor of 100 to the 10th power. I would say at least more than 4.2 trillion rpms....

it also sounds like an excellent excuse for a staycation! Instead of turning the lights off for one hour, turn the lights off all night. Gather candles, flashlights, etc. to luminate your home.

F- This.

And another thing: wouldn't 1 billion people burning several billion candles put out a lot more pollution than the generation of electricity for them to just leave a couple lights on?

Morons.

Gather candles, flashlights, etc. to luminate your home. Make snacks and invite people over for a night of

get drunk and burn the house down, then go apply for a mortgage, good luck

Instead of turning the lights off for one hour, turn the lights off all night. Gather candles, flashlights, etc. to luminate your home. Make snacks and invite people over for a night of glowing fun with friends.

What kind of life do these people live? Most people sleep at night and do turn out their lights.

Great. They’ve picked an hour when most businesses are closed and will already have most, if not all, of their lights off.

LOL - I just had to laugh at their suggestion to turn off the lights all night — and then POWER UP your COMPUTER (which takes more electricity than a single light bulb) and check out what others are doing? What’s the point if you’re using energy to be online reporting what your dark house looks like! ROFL

Do these people actually read their suggestions before publishing them??? Too funny.

FYI - here’s some quick stats to prove my point:

Kilowatt usage based on 4 hours - the approx. length of time suggested above for your “dark party” [The calculator I used determines monthly cost so I put in that these things were only going to be used for 1 day a month]

1 100-watt light bulb used for 4 hours —
USAGE: .4 kWh
Average Cost: $.05

1 “150” Home Computer (Computer + 17” LCD Monitor) used for 4 hours (to check out earthday.org) —
Usage: .6 kWh
Average Cost: $.07
