Yes, because no energy is used in the production or use of candles and flashlights.
Remind me next year that the Christmas lights don't come down until after March.
LOL - I just had to laugh at their suggestion to turn off the lights all night — and then POWER UP your COMPUTER (which takes more electricity than a single light bulb) and check out what others are doing? What’s the point if you’re using energy to be online reporting what your dark house looks like! ROFL
Do these people actually read their suggestions before publishing them??? Too funny.
FYI - here’s some quick stats to prove my point:
Kilowatt usage based on 4 hours - the approx. length of time suggested above for your “dark party” [The calculator I used determines monthly cost so I put in that these things were only going to be used for 1 day a month]
1 100-watt light bulb used for 4 hours —
USAGE: .4 kWh
Average Cost: $.05
1 “150” Home Computer (Computer + 17” LCD Monitor) used for 4 hours (to check out earthday.org) —
Usage: .6 kWh
Average Cost: $.07

Just thought of another thing thanks to my oldest daughter:
Doesn’t this person realize that all these candles are going to be releasing CARBON DIOXIDE into the air? Isn’t that what, according to them, CREATES global warming?
If your electricity comes from a plant that uses WATER to generate it, and instead you are burning candles your actions are technically going to be WORSE for the environment than leaving ALL your lights on!!!
This is too funny.
