WASHINGTON (AP) Strapped by the nation's economic crisis, fewer Americans are migrating to Sun Belt hot spots in Nevada, Arizona and Florida, instead staying put for now in traditional big cities.
Census data released Thursday highlight a U.S. population somewhat locked in place by the severe housing downturn and economic recession, even before the impact of rippling job layoffs after last September's financial meltdown.

Thank heavens we have Mexicans willing to do the migration Americans won’t!
A small bit of ‘good news’ in today’s dreary headlines...less libs diluting our southern empire.
So how much does central air conditioning cost per month now? ;-)
Stuck in Michigan.
But no doubt ACORN will help here when it comes to *finding people* that don’t exist so we don’t lose three congressional seats instead of one.
But they’re all rats anyway, it does not matter.
Don’t underestimate the effects of upsidedown mortgages. People who owe more than their homes are worth are trapped for years.
Does that mean more liberals will be keeping their liberalness back in their liberal hellholes?
Yay!
Now let’s get rid of the illegals and we’ll be good to go!
Yow ...
All you liberals ... stay the hell in the North East. You are among friends, family and other morons. You idiots in Mexifornia ... you guys stay there too.
The people in the red and purple States have had enough of your socialist BS ideas. I’m getting really tired of you folks screwing up Colorado.
Just stay where you are and freeze your as#es off. If the rest of the country is lucky - we won’t have to chip you out of your Section 8 housing till May.
Oh ... and have a nice day!
“Now lets get rid of the illegals and well be good to go!”
Yeah but HUD already has a new first time buyer, $100. down, 4.5%, 30 years program in effect. You also get the $100 back at closing! And most homes will qualify for FHA grants so you will likely have NO money in the home when you settle on the property!
REALLY, not kidding! Can anyone believe this?
Wow! Can my minor children apply? I might pick up a couple of rental properties!
Notice the source -The Associated Press.
This seems to be an “early” attempt to begin the debate about the census, and how not as many people migrated out of the Liberal northern states as once expected.
Seems funny this story coincides with the recent announcement by Acorn that they will partner with the Census.
I am in Real Estate in South Carolina. I can tell, you that there are tons of people still moving here from the North!!!
Actually, I am a mortgage person as well.
Most people not in the business dont realize that “we have no choice” but to offer a loan approval if a person meets Fannie or Freddie guidelines.
So, blame the Government, not the mortgage companies. You can be sued for discrimination if you do not offer a loan to someone who meets minimum standards, even though you know they are not the best candidate for a mortgage.
Thats what the media does not tell people.
Don’t forget about the first time buyer, 30%, tax REBATE. that’s not a credit, that’s CASH.
Hadn’t forgotten it... just did not want to go into too much detail. The whole thing is unbelievable in light of how we got to this point in our countries finances.
Hallelujah! Come down, spend your money but then go the hell home!
;-)
My apologies, no slight intended to you. The folks much higher up the chain are the ones at the root of all of this.
“A small bit of good news in todays dreary headlines...less libs diluting our southern empire.”
Yes, but sadly, too damn many of the flies and mosquitoes
have gotten in from the north and the south.
Reports I've read say that US citizens have been migrating out of California for the last decade. It's no problem though, as more than that number of illegal aliens are taking their place. If California brings in a few more million illegals their money problems will disappear!
