ABC News' Brian Hartman Reports: President Obama's latest shovel-ready project is close to home -- in fact, right in his own yard. In an effort to promote healthy eating, the first family will be planting a vegetable garden right on the White House grounds.
ABC News' Ann Compton and Sunlen Miller report that the new White House vegetable garden will be dug up and planted on the South grounds of the White House -- near the fountain but out of view of the main house.
Though the 16-acre complex is maintained by the National Park Service, one worker who preferred to remain anonymous assured ABC News that National Park Service staff won't do the sowing and planting. The White House residence staff will handle that.

And since I love doing this:
"Now, people, doesn't it feel gratifying to be able to toil all day in the garden and then come in and cook it up for the extraordinary Obamas? Do you know how many folks would give up everything they owned to be able to have this privilege?"

But purchased food would come from evil capitalist businesses run by very greedy CEOs who receive big bonuses. What sort of example would that be?
Self-sufficiency, spending several hours a day watering, hoeing, fertilizing, staking and pruning. That’s the leadership by example this nation really needs. Why, we’ll be prosperous in no time when Dear Leader shows us how.

Agree. Several weeks ago Michelle Mabelle referred to the White House Staff as servants. That story was quickly scrubbed from the Internet and replaced by several ancillary personnel referring to the Career Staff as servants. You know the 0bamas won't be doing it themselves. The 0bamas are nauseating but the Media that panders to them are downright disgusting.

The place definitely needs a ratty couch on the front porch and a couple of aluminum lawn chairs for sipping the Colt 45 on those hot August nights.

My sister-in-law has a couple of chickens in her back yard. They lay very nice eggs but have scratched up ALL the grass. My in-laws are going to fence off a small portion of the yard for the chickens and try to get some grass growing again. The chickens are also loud and defecate everywhere they can walk. Yuck!

Nancy: I told everyone that it would take a woman to clean up Congress. But I told them no windows and no weeding. Michelle has some nerve making me come over here and work her garden. Just because I love Barack, doesn't mean I have to be a field hand for Michelle.
Harry: Shut up, Nancy. You made such a fool of yourself at that joint session that Obama knows he owns you, and since you run the roost, I'm forced to come along.

The White House has lots of functions, so I think it would be okay to have food grown locally right there for the White House chefs. Lots of restaurants these days have gardens to get local food. I contribute to the "eat local food" movement by shooting a deer on my property every year.

It’s going to be interesting to see who tends this garden. Who weeds it, who waters it, etc.
A garden requires a lot of care and I bet it gets nurtured by Barack and Michelle’s serfs.

Cant Obama just wave his mighty hand and produce instant eggplants? Don't he wish!

So the “First Family” is going to have someone else plant their garden and do all the other work associated with a garden. I wonder if they will have to hire additional staff to do this..
