Dodd acknowledged his role in the change after a Treasury Department official told CNN the administration pushed for the language.
Both Dodd and the official, who asked not to be named, said it was because administration officials were afraid the government would face numerous lawsuits without the new language.
---snip--
"I agreed reluctantly," Dodd said. "I was changing the amendment because others were insistent."

Anyone taking Obama's promise or position seriously on any matter of importance to them -- deserves to be abused as a sucker.
Bad for us, for sure -- but horrible and crippling for our grandchildren....
It is they who will curse us for allowing this to happen...
This seems like HUGE news. I wonder how long they’ll play this for...?
Yes, a lot of heads will roll in Obama's dumbass attempt to protect his boy Geithner, even proposing to creat a whole new government agency with a "bailout czar" (and scapegoat) heading it.
After the initial political massacre, Geithner will probably go under the bus and Obama will read a stirring and healing speech off his teleprompter.
I have a slightly different take on that: Obama's handlers pushed for the language as bait to hook companies into giving bonuses, which would then be used as an argument to expand government even more exponentially and nationalize the banks.
Fixed it for ya.
Who says this nightmare is going to end? Dear Leader wants to set up a whole new government agency just to take care of bailouts. That has a very ominous and very permanent ring to it.
BREAKING: I was responsible for bonus loophole, says Dodd

IMHO, ever red-blooded patriotic American who votes should write their Congressmen and Senators, at state level too, and demand that any elected official or candidate that received one penny in 2008 from any corporation that received bailout money from the US Treasury (which is totally unConstitutional) hand it back to the government to be put back into the central bank or general fund worse case.
You must understand that The Marxist Onada believes—or any leftist—anything he says at the time he says it. Expediancy is what’s important—not facts, truth or common sense.
Of course, this BS would not fly if the MSM did its traditional job. But, alas, that is such a quaint notion these days.
I thought it was near impossible to sue the government. Aren’t they the Untouchables?
I don’t see how he’s going to get a line-item veto, what with it being unConstitutional and all. Oh...wait...
Yes, instills you with confidence, no?
Considering 0bama’s record of appointments, his head of socialized medicine will probably be a guy caught for blatant malpractice. Why not, we got a tax cheat in charge of the treasury?
I think the MSM is going to skip reporting on the screw-ups until they get to the point that they realize that everything is turning into a screw-up!
