DAWN WALTON
Globe and Mail Update
Calgary Former U.S. president George W. Bush defended his decision to invade Iraq, said risk takers, not government are needed to salvage the world economy and offered his advice to current U.S. administration during a luncheon speech in Calgary.
In his first public address since U.S. President Barack Obama moved into the White House, Mr. Bush was greeted with a standing ovation when he took the podium by close to 2,000 guests who paid $4,000 per table.
This is my maiden voyage. My first speech since I was the president of the United States and I couldn't think of a better place to give it than Calgary, Canada, he said to applause.
The invite-only event titled a Conversation with George W. Bush was banned to the press and organizers were coy about providing details leading up to the event.

says he “wants Obama to succeed”
that’s why you failed.
This ought to be good.
If he really loves his country he should wish Obama to leave soon...!
I could scream.
Does anyone still want to remain in the Republican party?
" That's funny right there, I don't care who y'arr
I love my country more than politics too, Mr. President. That is why Obama MUST fail.
Maybe his speech will bring good luck to the Calgary Flames.
But, he is a man - and he made a lot of mistakes too.
Bailouts - bad, bad decision.
He had 6 years (and control of both houses of Congress) to do things such as build the border fence. He didn't.
Cheering on Obama is garbage. Cheney has real courage - he came out Sunday and blasted this evil administration as he should have done.
If GW Bush wants to be "gracious" - then he should shut up, and go fishing.
I agree and would LOVE for the illegal alien president to fail. let me re-rephrase...
Actually, may Dumbo Hussein leave office in 2012 a broken man.
...Fot heaven's sake, just go away Bush!
I’m sure President Bush would have voted for George Allen and not Jim Webb, unlike yourself.
Sometimes people say things just to be nice. Sorta like “nice sermon rev”.
Enough of this “We want zer0 to win” $4000.00 a table
Do We want a ONE World currancy ? zer0 & Putan do
Come on, The people are going to have to tough it out an take it back.
Or settle for it an get screwed
Vaya con Shamnesty, Jorge Boosh!
This is a total nothing burger.
Bush has been nothing but supportive and kind to Rush Limbaugh.
Whatever he means by succeed he isn’t attacking Rush if anybody thinks so.
If the quote is accurate and he said “the President to succeed”, then he is talking about the Presidency, any President of the United States, not the specific policies of a specific individual.
If he loves his country then he doesn’t want it to become another Venezuela, which is where Obama’s policies would take it.
George W Bush is the same as he’s always been.
The whole family is like that.
Nevertheless, the man did some very conservative things while in office and some not so conservative.
His rhetoric or lack there of against his enemies drove everyone crazy.
Like Rush says, it is what it is.
Why people love to let the DVM jerk them around to hatred of the former President, I’ll never understand.
They will NEVER jerk me around.
Neither will any of you.
When they asked him the “gotcha” question about Obama succeeding, he should have responded, “I want America to succeed,” and refused to elaborate.
If Dubya had ever been willing to counterpunch against his adversaries, he probably wouldn’t have ended up with that sub-30% approval rating...
What do you expect him to say?? He has more class than President Carter.
Pray for America and Our Troops
He also voted for:
Bailouts for losers!
Bernake
Paulson
Perscription Drugs
Kathleen Myers for SC
Limited warfare until Pretraeus
Rumsfeld's stragegy until Pretraeus
