Today conservatism is stigmatized in our culture as an antiminority political philosophy. In certain quarters, conservatism is simply racism by another name. And minorities who openly identify themselves as conservatives are still novelties, fish out of water.
Yet there is now the feeling that without an appeal to minorities, conservatism is at risk of marginalization. The recent election revealed a Republican Party -- largely white, male and Southern -- seemingly on its way to becoming a "regional" party. Still, an appeal targeted just at minorities -- reeking as it surely would of identity politics -- is anathema to most conservatives. Can't it be assumed, they would argue, that support of classic principles -- individual freedom and equality under the law -- constitutes support of minorities? And, given the fact that blacks and Hispanics often poll more conservatively than whites on most social issues, shouldn't there be an easy simpatico between these minorities and political conservatism?

“Teach a man to fish, and...” He will spend lots of time in a boat dringing beer?
Do you really believe that only 2 million families in the US are living on Welfare? Also what is the definition of welfare? Is that only direct government checks and coupons? In my opinion welfare is much more than just government checks and coupons. It is the free housing, section 8, free healthcare, etc....
Unfortunately, it was his title. So I didn’t change it.
Another quick addition: By far the greatest factor in pushing people below the poverty line is single-parenting/divorce in homes with children below 18.
A higher number of these homes are single white mothers, and a higher percentage within a racial category are single black mothers.
If you wish to convert Blacks to the conservative cause, you will have to get a conservative black rap artist to write rap songs that appeal to young blacks. Maybe we can get someone to do Uncle Remus in rap.

” checked out the source (Joint Center etc.,etc,) and I don’t find where this is any more reliable. I would tend to believe the daughter of Mr King before a think tank whose main objective is to only further the cause of a single race, instead of trying to empower and strenghten that same race through truth.Knowledge is only good if it empowers you in a positive way.
(but,then again,that’s just my humble opinion....) “
Incredibly lame, you see the charts on party registration by blacks, which year do you think is inaccurate?
Post a factual source, I did.
The best way to avoid poverty is the traditional nuclear family. Be a part of one, make one.
Do I believe that? What does it matter? This is a statistical report of caseloads in government agencies. Go argue with the source page if you have a beef with it.
You started arguing with someone who used the word welfare, not “all forms of government assistance”. These stats track welfare recipients, whatever that means.
Bryan Clark, a spokesman in Ohio's secretary of state's office. "I think there was a suppressed white turnout in blue-collar areas. The Reagan Democrats stayed home and the social conservatives weren't excited by the McCain-Palin ticket." "It suggests two obvious trends. First, that Obama and the Democrats were able to mobilize and motivate minority voters in a probably unprecedented way. Second, it may suggest that Republicans had more difficulty turning out their (I add: "own once loyal")voters, but it's hard to be sure about that without knowing who the white voters were who showed up last time and not this time. Maybe it was evangelicals who stayed home because they were unenthused about McCain; or maybe it was previously democratic voters who stayed home because they were unenthused about Obama. The statewide data don't give us a clear picture." (ProjectVote-even though we know what they stand for, they still research the "Minority" voters)
So maybe it was not the "Fewer White Voters, While Minorities Set Records". Many older Republican voters didn't turn out in comparison to the uptick in Younger voters did more than ever before. But Latinos had a big swing up of 46%.
Thomas Mann, of the Brookings Institution, a centrist think tank. "It remains to be seen whether the increased turnout among minorities will be sustained over time. Part of these patterns of turnout in battleground states is probably due to the relative effectiveness of voter mobilization efforts (!!!!)."
Let's face it, we know the McCain voter was not really motivated. We all pretty much said it. It was even suggested while Rush was trumping Hillary (that failed), the media had been trumping McCain (that won) for the same reason. Palin, outside of these two examples of media influence peddling, was the only true spark that got Republicans inspired again. The conservatives were just not happy with the handlers for the Republican Party. I think we need to stop placing blame on the voters, who they are and point to the strategists in the Republican Party during this last election. Out of touch, much? Remember the Borders? the "Spending" like drunken sailors"? the cowering down like naughty grade school students to Pelosi and a sharing a beer mentality with Sir Kennedy. We did support our troops and win in Iraq.
"I think absolutely white Republicans did not show up.."they were turned off, disillusioned. They did not turn out. Democratic voters did come out. They couldn't wait to vote."-Larry Sabato, of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics.
The Democrat leaders could just sniff out this "weakness in the air" from the "other side". The influencial MSMmedia "groupies" just feasted on it, like crows cleaning up after a road kill.
From the article:
The recent election revealed a Republican Party — largely white, male and Southern — seemingly on its way to becoming a “regional” party.
Has this author ever seen a county by county map of the United States in regards to republican vs. democrat voting? It is exactly the opposite of what he claims. It is the democrat party that is a regional party of the high population centers and welfare communities with the rest of the country voting republican.
Lynden Johnson was not bent on redeeming America from its racial past (it was the democrats racism and not Americas racism anyway) but Johnson was simply bent on changing the strategy of the democrat party which was losing the battle of civil rights to the republican party. His new strategy was to weaken minority neighborhoods with socialism and moral relativism while promising handouts for votes and preaching hatred for republicans in high population areas. Johnson had a long history of voting against civil rights and was known for his racism throughout his life.
....that would change their minds......
....nnnaaaahhh....they would only blame it on whitey...
...where's the welfare office....
I wonder about this source as well. I’ve been trying to find it, but wasn’t there a quote from W.E.B. DuBois (in one of his books) where he chastises Black people for voting so solidly Republican all the time? This would have been near the top of the 20th century.
This is the best explantion, I have ever read.
Its funny how some people can look at a thing and see it as blue, while others see it so clearly as red.
Conservatism as a principle doesnt need to evolve, but minorities certainly do. Conservatism as a political force is in disfavor because blocks of people have fallen for the myth of the entitlement society.
Leftists have convinced these blocks that they are entitled - entitled to healthcare, entitled to housing, entitled to success. Since these are things that we ALL want, why not believe that we should be entitled to them?
The left taught minorities to trade on their victim status - to wear it like a crown of thorns and to exploit it at every turn. If you arent getting what you want, it must be someone elses fault, and someone elses responsibility to fix.
And the left elevated itself upon promises and bribes to minorities - easy promises spent from someone elses pocketbook. Its easy when you arent paying for it yourself.
Conservatives have always held to the principle of equality of opportunity - we should all have a shot at the golden ring - but there can be no guarantees of success in this world.
So short term, leftists have made gains. The problem is maintaining that advantage as we eat ourselves alive. Despite the silly leftist rhetoric to the contrary, you cant spend your way to prosperity, and money does not, in fact, grow on trees. Someone has to generate the energy to replace that which is expended.
Leftists are telling us that we will accomplish this simply by taxing the excess profits of our most affluent. Nevermind that this is the functional equivalent of killing the goose who laid the golden eggs, the practical outcome of predatory income confiscation is that these folks will work harder - to shield THEIR MONEY from the government, resulting in LESS revenue, not more.
When the government realizes that their coffers are diminishing, they will respond in the only way they know how - by seizing even more of OUR MONEY from even more of us.
Eventually minorities will come to recognize that their own interests are poorly served by the nihilistic political ideology that the dhimmicrat party represents. They will vote with whatever is left of their pocketbook. I hope they evolve quickly - at the pace that the dhimmicrats are dismantling America I fear that there will be little left to save...
When two Freepers decide that a column is worth posting, and sincere Freepers read and respond to the second posting of the article, I believe that if the second thread should be closed and linked to the thread that stays open, but it should not be deleted.
There were many thoughtful comments on the thread that you deleted.
I posted on the deleted thread of this title this morning, and went back to check what I had written, to find that my words have vanished. Very frustrating!
You are correct! My wife was talking about how they were all concerned and about the cuts they’ll have to be making. My response was “They voted for it- they can pay for it.”
Well post some facts that dispute those numbers.
