Euro chiefs ban 'Miss' and 'Mrs'
The European Parliament has banned the terms 'Miss' and 'Mrs' in case they offend female MEPs.
By Simon Johnson 15 Mar 2009
The politically correct rules also mean a ban on Continental titles, such as Madame and Mademoiselle, Frau and Fraulein and Senora and Senorita.
Guidance issued in a new 'Gender-Neutral Language' pamphlet instead orders politicians to address female members by their full name only.
Officials have also ordered that 'sportsmen' be called 'athletes', 'statesmen' be referred to as 'political leaders' and even that 'synthetic' or 'artificial' be used instead of 'man-made'.
The guidance lists banned terms for describing professions, including fireman, air hostess, headmaster, policeman, salesman, manageress, cinema usherette and male nurse.
However MEPs are still allowed to refer to 'midwives' as there is no accepted male version of the job description.
The booklet also admits that "no gender-neutral term has been successfully proposed" to replace 'waiter' and 'waitress', allowing parliamentarians to use these words in a restaurant or café.

I’m in favor of the gender-neutral “Asshat”.
Certainly is no excess of manliness over there to offend the euroweenies.
Is this from the Onion ?
This sounds doubleplusgood!!!
They have no problem with “neck choppers”, it would appear.
Last I checked, Humans come in boy type and girl type.
If they’re going to start doing stupid things, where will it stop?
Will we not be able to have nations? races? families?
Why call a Jew a Jew or an Arab an Arab? Someone might get offended.
While we’re at it, let’s get rid of age language to, we’re all the same age with the same experience, no matter if you’ve been here for 3 years or 300 years!
Also, why don’t we blur the lines between idiots and intellectuals... oh wait... we already have, I guess that was the first to go.
Well, seeing as how they don’t have any other problems I can see how they could become mired in such picayune, politically correct matters.
Dunno about that... we've been using the generic "waitron" in the food business here in the States for a long time. Friggin idjits.

Back in the EUSSR...
So I guess Mr and Ms are taboo?
As noted repeatedly here since 2001, the EU is just the Sovs w/o the tanks.
I would think ‘server’ would fit as an alternative to waiter or waitress.
Very good point and all the operas and classical music.
Apparently no real, pressing matters to solve in the European Parliament.
The EU should, instead, focus on making all countries have gender-neutral nouns. There is no good reason to have the articles der (masculine), die (feminine), and das (neutral), which all mean “the”, to modify German nouns, for example. Many other non-English languages have the same problem. It makes learning to speak a foreign language a pain in the buttinsky.
The Mr. and Mrs. thing pales in comparison.
I propose "Waitron" for most of the EU, and in France they can use Pompous Twit...
