Actor and longtime political activist Ron Silver died this morning, succumbing to a long battle with cancer, friends of the liberal Democrat-turned-GOP stalwart told The Post.
"Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning," said Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition, which Silver helped create.
"He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years and his family is making arrangements for a private service."
Friends of Silver first told Post columnist Cindy Adams of the native New Yorker's death.
The steely-eyed, blunt-talking Silver, 62, enjoyed a long career on the stage, TV and in movies, and most recently hosted a public affairs talk show on Sirius satellite radio.

One of the good guys gone. RIP
Holy cow. I doubt he abused his health
What a shame. Rest in peace, Mr. Silver.
Ugh, I didn’t even know he was ill. Enjoyed his work. RIP.
I thought so too. I loved him in that! A talented man.
Prayers for his loved ones.
“Wasnt he a big Clintoon backer?? During the Clinton inaguration there was a flyover and he said something along the linesthose are our jets now.......or do I have the wrong guy?”
I’m not sure but I thought it was Henry Winkler.
Anyway, RIP Mr. Silver. I’m so glad he saw the light(politically, at least) and joined the right side. May many more Hollywood folks and other liberals do the same.
How sad. I didn’t know he was sick (like all the other posters ...). He was a charming actor.
Dear Lord Jesus,
We thank you for the time this man brought us. We thank you that you gave him the courage to stand up for his convictions. We pray comfort and strength for his family.
In Jesus Holy Name
Amen
So sorry to hear this, I liked him a lot. RIP Ron.
Sad. I LOVED him in “TimeCop.”
You are very welcome.
Damn, I didn’t even know he was sick, but I had been wondering why I hadn’t heard from him in awhile.
The Clintoon backer I believe was Richard Lewis. Could be wrong though.
Prayers for the family.
R.I.P.
IIRC, it was on Laura Ingraham’s show that I got to hear him. I think she had him for a guest now and then. He was a brave guy.
May he rest in peace.
My thoughts exactly. So sad.

America has lost a true Patriot who had the courage of his convictions to go against his Hollywood peers. They disowned him, ridiculed him, and disinvited him. That takes courage.
Condolences to his family, and Prayers for his immortal soul.
This is sad. I had no idea. Esophageal cancer is what took my own dad ten years ago.
Very sad and may he RIP.
