Actor and longtime political activist Ron Silver died this morning, succumbing to a long battle with cancer, friends of the liberal Democrat-turned-GOP stalwart told The Post.
"Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning," said Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition, which Silver helped create.
"He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years and his family is making arrangements for a private service."
Friends of Silver first told Post columnist Cindy Adams of the native New Yorker's death.
The steely-eyed, blunt-talking Silver, 62, enjoyed a long career on the stage, TV and in movies, and most recently hosted a public affairs talk show on Sirius satellite radio.

Sad indeed. God rest his soul.
Be fruitful and multiply. We have power and that is the entire discussion. Grace encompasses all things that is good. (All comes from God BTW) :^)
RIP Ron
RIP
Esophageal cancer is the 2nd deadliest cancer there is (death rate...Pancreatic is #1). If you’ve had bad gastric reflux for years, PLEASE get an endoscopy. By the time you get ANY symptoms, it is practically a death sentence.
I saw him on episode of Law and Order other day like circu 1999
Mr. Silver was a bright star among many dull ones. May his family find comfort.
How sad. RIP. He was a brave soul to speak out the way he did in Hollywood.

Ron Silver: “The end of my days as a prominent liberal”

Actor Ron Silver, addressing the Pro-USA and pro-troops rally in Washington DC today and responding to his introduction as a “prominent linberal” said “I think you’ve seen the end of my days as prominent liberal.”
“Peace at what risk? Peace on whose terms? Peace for how long?” he went on. “There are worse things than war. People who think nothing is worth a war is worse.”
The enthusiastic crowd cheered as Silver evoked Elie Wiesel and the lessons learned through the horrors of Nazi Germany, enunciating the reasons for America’s humanitarian intervention in Iraq.
Following Silver, Linda Chavez remarked that she herself was a former liberal, and invited Silver to join the conservative ranks. “We ought to have a support group for ex-liberals,” she said, laughing.
Very sad,Prayers for the family.
RIP indeed. This is sad news.
From michellemalkin.com:
The 9/11 jihadi attacks were a pivotal moment in Silvers political evolution from Hollywood liberal to Hollywood hawk: I think there are September 10 people and there are September 11 people. Im one of the latter. Everything changed for me. Since then I see everything through the prism of what happened that day, he says.
May God bless Mr. Silver and his family. He took an unpopular conservative position in Hollywood - that took a great deal of honesty and strength of his convictions - that commands respect.
R.I.P.
