Actor and longtime political activist Ron Silver died this morning, succumbing to a long battle with cancer, friends of the liberal Democrat-turned-GOP stalwart told The Post.
"Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning," said Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition, which Silver helped create.
"He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years and his family is making arrangements for a private service."
Friends of Silver first told Post columnist Cindy Adams of the native New Yorker's death.
The steely-eyed, blunt-talking Silver, 62, enjoyed a long career on the stage, TV and in movies, and most recently hosted a public affairs talk show on Sirius satellite radio.

Thanks you for this thread for Ron Silver.
He was such a great voice after 9/11 for freedom and
against the IslamOfascists.
Am sure Laura Ingraham will have comments tomorrow on her radio program as a Cancer survivor and who apprecieated his comments for freedom.
Sad indeed! Ron was an excellent actor who played a very wide variety of characters to excellent portrayal. He was also a conservative and a good man. I wonder if Hollywood will even realize what they have lost?

I’m sorry, but I don’t know what you mean. Populace of grace?
Very sad to hear this. Rest in Peace Ron...you have gone on to your reward.
You, too, buckeyes. He will be missed. What acting roles do people most know him from? Silkwood and “Veronica’s Closet” are what come to mind for me.
I am so totally shocked and sad. He was a good actor, and a great patriot. He will be missed.
I’m very sorry to hear this. RIP Mr. Silver.
May his memory be for a blessing.
It’s an understanding that “grace” by God is our calling. The more the grace, the more the people and vice-versa.
RIP, Ron.
A terrible loss for all of us. May he rest in peace knowing that he was one of those fine souls who gave more than he took.
On behalf of the Mod Squad, RIP.
And Amen
As someone who lost a father to cancer, it’s a horrible way to die. RIP, Ron. You were a true patriot in advancing the conservative cause.
RIP Senator McComb
I am so sorry to hear this news. 62 is so young. He was a good patriot. There are too few of them nowadays.

I’m sorry, I still don’t understand. Wouldn’t it be “grace FROM God” and not “grace by God”? And wouldn’t it be “being given grace” or “receiving grace” is our calling? And when you say “the more the grace, the more the people”, what people do you mean or how would it add to the number of people? And how does any of this directly relate to Ron Silver or what I said?
I’m not trying to be picky here, but you’re not making much sense.
So sad. I had no idea he was ill. No wonder he was absent from the talk show circuit. RIP Ron. You will be missed.
Sad. I think he spoke out at a big Freeper rally a few years back, maybe during the Clinton impeachment - RIP.....
I just happend to find the exchange between he and Bill Maher on CNN years back which is worth the read. IMHO he cleaned the floor with Maher.
