THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned that General Petraeus is planning on delivering the commencement address at the University of Iowa in 2010.
So reports Michael Goldfarb, late of the McCain campaign, on the magazines blog.
Petraeus going to Iowa, a state he doesnt have previous ties to, is going to create a huge amount of buzz about his presidential ambitions because the Iowa Caucuses kick off the whole presidential nomination process. If he does, deliver the addressand Petraeus must know thisit will be seen as a sign that he is thinking about running in 2012.
Previously, it has been thought that Petraeus would not run against a president who had been his Commander in Chief. But there are reports of tension between Petraeus and Obama over both Iraq and Afghan strategy.
Very little is known about Petrauess politics and no one knows how he would make the transition from soldier to politician. But if he did enter the race, it would shake things up dramatically. He would instantly become a top tier candidate and the most serious threat to Obama's chances of winning a second term.
I hope he doesn’t have to step in and apply Martial Law and remind Obama and Congress who hired them, and ultimately that document called the Constitution. God bless and keep the USA. We live in interesting times.
I like it :)
To lead our country you couldn’t support a general who has led men in war but you could support a guy who has delivered babies. Strange.
No so fast, everybody...there may be nothing more to this than some Weekly Standard blogger’s idea of a joke.

Still, the idea of a “Petraeus/Palin in 2012” bumper sticker does bring a smile.
Again, this rumor falls into the “Peter Pace Should Run For Senate in Virginia” crappola that always brews up on the web.

Statement by the US Central Command Public Affairs Office:
Contrary to several recent blogs, General David Petraeus, the Commander of the US Central Command, has not been asked to speak at a university commencement in Iowa in 2010 and has no plans to do so.
It us unclear where this rumor started, but it is not accurate.
Furthermore, General Petraeus is not planning to run for President in 2012. He has repeatedly stated that he feels very privileged to have been able to serve our country in uniform and that he would like to continue to do so as long as those above him want him to serve.
When he retires, he has no intention of seeking political office.
In response to questions about presidential aspirations, General Petraeus has often asked questioners to recall General Shermans response to similar queries in the late 1800s. Sherman said, If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve. That remains General Petraeus response as well.
I’m not confusing him with someone else. I’m thinking of when he was in northern Iraq.
I don’t think that Ike was a bad president. Made a couple of poor Supreme Court choices and a bad VP choice, but was generally a solid conservative.
