WASHINGTON Tighter gun control and stronger law enforcement in Southwestern states were recommended Thursday by lawmakers concerned about drug violence in Mexico possibly spilling across the border.
--snip--
"The United States and Mexico border violence can only be solved if we look at all parts of the equation," Rep. John Tierney, D-Mass., said Thursday during a House subcommittee considering changes to U.S. gun laws. "Lets examine our gun laws, lets cut down on U.S. drug consumption, lets ask there to be more resources to root out drug-money laundering," he said...

What if we gave a war and EVERYBODY came?
Tighter gun control? Like make more laws against gun smuggling?
> “Lets examine our gun laws, lets cut down on U.S. drug consumption, lets ask there to be more resources to root out drug-money laundering,”
Oh jeez, why don’t we add a conference on ‘world peace’ into that “equation”, shall we?
Uh... not working...
If they did the second - enforced the existing firearms laws - they wouldn't even be considering the first. In fact, they probably need more firearms in that neck-of-the-woods to help people protect themselves.
If you think the police will protect you, you are sadly mistaken. Police are there to protect society from criminals. By definition, they have to commit a crime first before the police come after them. That crime may very well be against you or your family. Your safety, and the safety of those you care about, is ultimately your own responsibility.
Yeah...and look; some MassHole rep to boot suggesting this.
His own state has been under almost 40 years of the most draconian gun-control laws in the nation...now, he wants to spread his crap to Texas???
Texas needs to tell him to stick it up his MassHole....
I cannot stomach those people up there.....
Brilliant. As the situation gets more dangerous, lets take away the ability of our citizens to defend themselves. With that kind of reasoning, the author is undoubtably a dem.
Another opportunist. Blame Americans, use another situation to oppress the citizenry.
If I had my way, people in those border states would be armed to the teeth. They are on the front lines of a war, and all this sniveling politician can think up is a way to make our citizenry more vulnerable. Criminals crossing the borders and raiding border towns. Enough of these people already.

It sure isn’t, and the proof of that is the election of a marxist anti-semitic racist who doesnt want to show his birth certificate to anyone. My, how our standards have fallen over the years.
I would not bet on it!
This is still Texas.
Not some place in Kenya.
We do not need help dealing with the mess in Mexico.
If it spills over, it will be dealt with.
What does some dip/stick in Mass. know about the border, butt out dummie.

Hey Canedawg, you forgot “...coke sniffin’, grass tokin’...” in your description of BHO! :^)
“If I had my way, people in those border states would be armed to the teeth.”
Take it from us folks here in the border states...we ARE armed to the teeth!
Not me. Just one two 12 gauges, a 30.06, a .45, a .38, and three or four .22s. Barely enough to notice.
What a f’cking farce regarding the idea of gun control helping the situation in Mexico.
Why in the hell would the Mexican drug cartels have any use for a semiautomatic rifle bought and smuggled from the US when they can probably get all the full autos they want, CHEAPER, from elsewhere.
This is just another lame ass excuse to infringe on our rights.
