Fairfax, Va. -- The National Park Service has announced its intention to ban traditional ammunition containing lead in all its parks. The move would needlessly push hunters to use more costly ammo like tungsten, copper, and steel. The restrictions, set to take affect by the end of 2010, were announced without regard to science or soliciting feedback from sportsmens groups.
"The NPS announcement demonstrates either complete ignorance or complete arrogance as to the effect that this policy will have on hunters, says Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. There is no science to support NPS' contention that the use of lead ammunition in hunting is causing environmental contamination, having a negative effect on wildlife, or posing a threat to the health of visitors or park staff. This policy, and the lack of communication in advance with the sportsmen's community, is a deliberate attempt to reduce the number of people who will want to hunt in the 60 parks that are open to hunting. This plays directly into the hands of radical anti-hunting organizations like the Humane Society of the US which is advocating that hunters be banned from using lead ammunition."
The NRA will continue to be a voice of opposition against this unnecessary action and is committed to protecting the rights of hunters to use the ammo that is best suited for their hunting needs and budget.
-NRA-
Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is Americas oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.
If the local hobby shop that I visited when I was a kid was time-transported to today it would be shut down by the police as a death trap and purveyor of objects of terror.
One more.
Those lead weights on your vehicles rims,,BANNED.
Pure anti-gun.
With this gun, Sarah Palin can shoot Russians from her house
Love it.
Our tax money pays for this nonsense.
Look for this to also prevent fishing with lead sinkers.....even split shot on a fly line. It will probably be necessary to park your vehicle outside and walk in if you have lead wheel balance weights. Lots of batteries contain lead....probably have to leave them outside the park...wonder how the park rangers will get around.
The environazi’s must be pissed.......lead being the natural “green” material that it is being banned in favor of some confabulated unobtanium bullet buildin material !!
Outrage !!...........:o)
I suspect that the administration of Marxist Obama is doing a lot of the behind-the-scenes heavy lifting on this, and other measures designed to separate us from our Second Amendment.
.
It would be an act of war. The United States has pledged those resources as collateral. That's why you will only find the corporations of creditor nations with hard rock mining permits in the American West. You, as an American citizen, have been an enemy of the creditors since the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1933.
All the more reason for the each and separate States to claim their sovereignty in accordance with the 10th Amendment and reclaim all lands confiscated by the Federal Government i.e. all national parks. Each time the Washington Socialist make one of these over-reaching grabs for power, the states need to make a stand and push back.
Makes sense... after all we went in and kicked ass in Iraq, now they have free and honest elections...
While over here we can’t get a free and honest election... I mean what with all the “recounts”, the “finding” of ballots, the “117% of registered voters” voting, the multi-state voter-fraud perpetrated by ACORN, is there more? Im’m sure there is. [/cynic]
I find it all too easy to believe that the government is against its people.
Read the whole thing; it's a thread with important contributions from a lot of freepers connecting various dots. It explains a lot.
Stupid gun. The ONLY thing a 50 can do wihch a 270 wsm can’t is defeat light armor and for that I’d rather have real artillery than something you’d call a rifle which weighs 30 - 40 lbs.
Yeah but..Who will ever know?? I have carried into many national parks, and no one has ever patted me down. I just drive in and pay the fee. I carried at work for 30 years before I retired, and no one ever knew..
“All the more reason for the each and separate States to claim their sovereignty in accordance with the 10th Amendment and reclaim all lands confiscated by the Federal Government i.e. all national parks.”
Great in theory but it didn’t work out too well with SC and Ft. Sumpter.
Another thing the 50 cal can do is to deliver 12 thousand foot pounds of terminal energy. Ouch.
You have been lucky.
‘Zackly, pretty obvious their reasoning unless they’re banning wheel weights and fishing sinkers too...
The left-wing anti-gun maggots & tree-hugging faggots complained that they should have done an environmental impact study before passing this CCW rule - which ANY THINKING person KNOWS is TOTALLY unecessary.
NOW, they pass this rule, which will give them a reason to arrest you for CCW with standard, LEAD component bullets/rounds in national Parks.
They THINK they are being "cute" with our 2nd Amendment rights, but they will soon find out, that we will NOT stand for this shit.
You load a 270 wsm cartridge with one of those Barnes all copper 140 gr bullets and enough R25 or whatever to move it at around 3300 fps, and there isn’t anything in North america it won’t kill from 1000 yards. And the gun and the scope will weight around 10 lbs.
We are dealing with the Government nobodies here who can not make it in the real world.
