David Broder: End of the Honeymoon
The Washington Post ^ | March 15, 2009 | David S. Broder

Posted on 03/14/2009 5:22:55 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Two months into his presidency, it is far too soon to make any judgments about Barack Obama's prospects. All we really know is that he has assembled the rudiments of an administration and launched a batch of ambitious but unproven initiatives.

But it is not too soon to say that the Obama honeymoon is over. His critics in Washington and around the world have found their voices, and they are subjecting his administration to the kind of skeptical questioning that is normal for chief executives once they settle into their jobs.

Obama still enjoys broad public support, but it is stronger for him personally than for his policies. Some of those policies are bafflingly complex, and all of them are untested.

Among those who follow government closely, there has been an unmistakable change in tone in the past few weeks. These are not little Rush Limbaughs hoping that Obama fails. They are politicians and journalists measuring him with the same skeptical eye they apply to everyone else.

I think the shift began when Obama moved beyond the stimulus bill to his speech to the joint session of Congress and his budget message. For the first time, the full extent of his ambitions for 2009 became clear -- not just stopping and reversing the steep slide in the economy but also launching highly controversial efforts in health care, energy and education.

Journalists are a little embarrassed that they jumped right into bed after meeting Obama in a bar, and are now demanding that he take them to a dinner on a real date.

They're not going to stop sleeping with him though. Or the next guy. They're just trying to look less like common whores.

Zero’s sick distinction will be the “worst” Presidency in the history of this nation. May this sick joke that is Obama drag every one of his cohorts out of office with him.

"Obama still enjoys broad public support"

Actually I don't believe that this is really true either and whatever support he has it's slipping fast.

Obama still enjoys broad public support,...

Sure however "hope" only lasts so long before "frustration" via realization kicks in.

We know what usually happens on honeymoons.

This one has been no different

We've been Obamatized

“Congress has taken note of the way Obama backed down from his anti-earmark stance, a clear signal that he is leery of any showdown with the lawmakers. Despite his popularity, Obama is not an intimidating figure, and so he can expect to be tested time and again. “

Obama is such a weak little wimp.

'Two months into his presidency, it is far too soon to make any judgments about Barack Obama's prospects. All we really know is that he has assembled the rudiments of an administration and launched a batch of ambitious but unproven initiatives.'

So Mr. Broder thinks Socialism is an 'ambitious but unproven initiative'? Good grief!

'Among those who follow government closely, there has been an unmistakable change in tone in the past few weeks. These are not little Rush Limbaughs hoping that Obama fails. They are politicians and journalists measuring him with the same skeptical eye they apply to everyone else.'

Of course he has to take his shot at Rush, but I guess he also did not read the provision drafted by James Madison in the Federalist Papers that saw to it that a U.S. President, unlike a King, did not have unchecked power (By the way I learned of that on Rush's program the other day). But then again, the Constitution doesn't matter to elitists like Broder.

Obama has given new meaning to the word “frivolous”, which we all thought Clinton perfected, even though it took him eight full years to explore every nook and cranny of frivolity and wrongheadedness/

I don’t know why these geniuses are surprised that he’s trying to slide in his communist agenda in bills to supposedly save our economy..... I’m not. Didn’t they pay attention to what he said, who he hung out with, who he learned from?

I think he wants to get as much done as fast as possible before the jig is up.

Biden was just mouthing off about the economy turning around and Obama being the reason. They’re not gonna let this guy fail.

If he’s counting on Sebelius to run his health plan, he’s in for a surprise. All she knows how to do is shill for abortionists. Oh yea, and take their campaign cash.
