Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is under fire from social conservatives for telling GQ magazine that abortion is an "individual choice" and homosexuality is not.
Despite declaring to GQ that women have the right to choose an abortion, Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Michael Steele has issued a statement saying he has always been pro-life and supports a constitutional amendment to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Matt Barber, director of cultural affairs for Liberty Counsel and Liberty Alliance Action, says in Steele's interview with GQ, he "sounded like he was on the payroll of Planned Parenthood."
"I'm encouraged that Michael Steele is on record now in support of the human life amendment. However, for the life of me I cannot imagine why he would have chosen to use the euphemistic language of choice. That's language that they came up with in the smoky back room of Planned Parenthood somewhere to try to hide the reality of what abortion is," he contends. "There is no such thing as pro-choice. You're either pro-abortion or anti-abortion."
Barber admits he is also troubled that Steele told GQ that believing homosexuality is a choice is equivalent to saying, "Tomorrow morning I'm going to stop being black."
"I am starting to wonder whether Michael Steele is on the payroll of the RNC or whether he's on the payroll of the [Democratic National Committee], because that sounds like something that Howard Dean or any spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign or the radical homosexual lobby would have said," he adds. "There's no science to support the notion that people are born homosexual."
Barber says it appears Steele and the Republican Party are going to continue making the same mistakes that landed them in the minority and are causing them to "spiral into the abyss of political irrelevancy."
RINOs always disappoint, don’t they?

he does not seem disciplined.
Why aren’t Governor Sarah Palin or Mark Sanford party chairman?
This list is far too short. He has also insulted Rush Limbaugh and praised Obama. I can’t think of anything Steele has done in this position that hasn’t bothered me.
Because they shouldn’t be. This is a full-time job.
The RNC is effectively dead. Waste of $$$, bandwidth, and time.
As far as Steele is concerned — screw the ‘Rat bastard.
The Republican party is a disappointment to Conservatives.
As far as I’m concerned, he should go, and go NOW.
Even if he learns to conceal his RINO beliefs and stops making these gaffs, it’s now clear that he will use his position as head of the RNC to continue with the same stupid conduct that got the Republicans in trouble in the first place.
He will predictably use his position to fund RINOs and undermine conservatives. He will make the socially conservative Evangelical votes stay home. We really don’t need any more of that nonsense. We were on a roll in the 2004 election, and it’s been downhill ever since. Bush was elected with a huge conservative turnout, and then they started blowing it all away.
Long live the Death and Perverts Administration of President Obortion!!
I just KNEW that Reaganesque black man from OH was the right pick and that Steele was just not quite right. How did these two key issues get past the voters in the Republican Party hierarchy??? (that’s not spelled right, is it?)
That is only because he hasn’t spoken on the Second Amendment yet.
He makes John McNutjob look palatable.
DUMP HIM!!!!
bttt your post
Hmm. Abortion, homosexuality, Gun Control, Affirmative Action...
Well. There must be something else he stands for...
Holder’s anti-second amendment stance is no rumor. Expect action as soon as they can do something swiftly and quietly. In fact it would not be surprising to just see President Hitler just executive-order the gun ban.
Dump this guy...and fast.
Who’s a viable replacement? Ken Blackwell? Newt? What about a John Engler or Tommy Thompson?
