‘If I Were Karzai I’d Be Reading The Biography Of Diem’
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

It’s an explosive charge, one that I’m not in a position to evaluate. So let me just lay it out. On today’s Morning Joe, Pat Buchanan suggested that the Obama administration might like to see Afghani President Hamid Karzai given the same treatment as Ngo Dinh Diem. Readers will recall that Diem was the first President of South Vietnam. He was executed by rebels after the Kennedy administration reportedly signaled Vietnamese generals that the US would not interfere if they carried out a coup d’etat against him.

Here’s the exchange:

SCARBOROUGH: You know, Pat, I read over the weekend that Joe Biden had a meeting with Karzai who’d basically been deified in America over the last six, seven years, where he got so angry at him he threw down his napkin–this is back when he was a senator–and went out of the room. They are obviously chilly relations between the Obama team and Karzai.

Buchanan made his explosive suggestion in response . . .

As usual, Buchanan on the money. And given the actions of this new Administration, where are all of you ‘sophisticates’ out there who were always so willing to align with the media in your criticisms of Buchanan, Ron Paul, Glen Beck, Michael Savage and the others who aggressively told the truth for years, only to be scorned.

Is Buchanan suggesting that Obama is going to pull a JFK on Karzai?

As usual, Buchanan on the money.

As usual? You mean like saying that Israel is running Gaza like a Nazi concentration camp?

Buchanan is a stopped clock.

Certainly seemed to be saying that. Have a look at the video.

Yup.

It’s what Democrat presidents do.

Buchanan, Paul and Savage are Loons...nuts. Buchanan gets it right once in a while and if he could ever get over his hatred for Jews and admiration of nazis he’s be a whole lot more acceptable.

It wouldn’t hurt for Karzai to Google “Nguyen Van Thieu” as well.

It also wouldn't hurt for Karzai to google the Paris Peace Accords.

“Engaged in defeatist talk”; “To be a friend of America is difficult; to be a friend can be fatal”.

Yep, Hope (we lose) and Change (governments). I might add to Pat’s statement “and to be an ally, is suicide”.

Didn’t work out so great for JFK, either.

I can't say anything about Karzai, but I remember when America's ally Massoud was assassinated in Afghanistan on about Sept 10 2001. That event was a surprise to the US and seemed to presage an unexpected turn of events in the region.

If something happens to Karzai, I think the repercussions would be immense.

Only the Islamofacists in the Middle East have a friend in Obama.

Only them. No one else: not the peaceful Muslims like Karzai. Not the parties working to establish Iraqi democracy. Not the students striving for freedom in Iran. Certainly not the Jews in Israel.

Only the terrorists/Islamofacists.

“Buchanan is a stopped clock.”

First of all, if you think that Israel is ‘simon pure’ over there, you need to do some research. Buchanan’s ‘anti-Israel’ positions were established years ago when frankly, their influence and impact on our government through AIPAC was incredibly extreme, and detrimental to this country. And he was right. Second, you were probably on here scoffing at Buchanan’s warnings about where our immigration policies would take us, probaby thought he was a ‘loon’ back then too. But feel free to remain in your middle-of-the-road wuss mindset, overly careful with everything you say, with the truth taking a back seat to your political correctness.

Anyone who thinks and agrees that Israels treatment of Hamas in Gaza is comparable to a Nazi concentration camp is a sick and demented lowlife. Spare me your pontificating.

True. November 2, 1963 for Diem and November 22, 1963 for Kennedy.

Sorry pal, but I’m not buying your blanket condemnation with a talking point right off the CNN website. Buchanan speaks the truth and he deliberately uses fiery language and analogy to get people’s attention. But hey, you keep supporting the John McCains of the world, the milquetoast appeasers who have done so much damage to this country by their weakness. I’ll take Buchanan any day of the week over a puss like McCain, and this country would be far better off having followed the lead of Buchanan than the ‘lead’ of a sellout like McCain.

CNN website? *snicker* Stop BSittting. Pat is the little MSM puppy. The crap came right out of Buchanan's mouth. Put us out our misery, and tell us right up front: Do you agree with Buchanan's statement that "Israel is turning Gaza into a Concentration Camp"?

Show us your colors.

Buchanan speaks the truth and he deliberately uses fiery language and analogy to get people’s attention.

In other words he is a clown running his mouth for attention... I am impressed about this gem of honesty.

But hey, you keep supporting the John McCains of the world, the milquetoast appeasers who have done so much damage to this country by their weakness.

Nice strawman Herr raptor. Where do you get the impression that I'm a McCain guy? I never supported him, except when running against Obama.

Anyone disagreeing with Herr Buchanan is a "McCain RINO" for you... I get it.

Get lost.
