Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell predicted on Thursday that Michael Steele's "days are numbered" as chairman of the Republican National Committee.
"He's in trouble because I just think that those who control the Republican Party don't want a big tent," Rendell told reporters during a lunch hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.
Rendell, a past chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said he believes the approaching special election in New York's 20th Congressional District to replace Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed senator is not likely a make-or-break event for Steele, whom Rendell said also faces more fundamental problems.

Why is it that whenever a dem ascribes thoughts and intentions to a republican, it becomes headline news, but when a pubbie describes the “thinking” of a dem, it’s only partisan bickering? /rhetorical
Yeah, yeah, yadda yadda yadda.
We just want the tent to include conservatives, Ed.
As if we should be taking he advice of a Democrat.
To anger a conservative, lie about him,
to anger a liberal, tell the truth about him.
Simple as that.
Ed Rendell is correct but for the wrong reasons. If the GOP wants to ever have any hope of making a comeback, Steele has to go.
This is B.S.
Steele has shut his mouth and is actually working on finance and party building. He’s also setting up a Blue-to-Red Operation.
If he does what I think he’ll do, he could turn into another Ray Bliss
Best,
Chris
Fast Eddie commenting on the GOP’s leader is like bhussein commenting on honesty.
The problem is that the people who CONTROL the party DO want a “big tent.” It’s the people who vote for the party - us, in other words - who don’t, and that’s what the GOP doesn’t understand.
Our party is for smaller, less intrusive government conservative types and our tent size is infinite.
Politico always gets there first with the Democrat news.
True
Yep, the “tent” welcomes any who hold the common values that individual effort and ambition and responsibility will be rewarded, and that charity is voluntary.
I don’t think Fast Eddie was saying that Steele SHOULD go. I think he was saying that he WILL go, but shouldn’t.
Not happy with the Steele situation for sure, but Fast Eddie can just go pi$$ off.
Don't pitch a tent of any size in a swamp. The tent is unlikely to be stable and no matter how large, unlikely to attract long term residents ('cept 'rats).
Mike Steele is clearly not doing this. He needs to quit and make room for someone who will.
They are? Maybe tell that to the ones here in Florida led by Govenor RINO Crist.
Dear Ed,
AS IF we were listening to your opinion..
