Rendell: Steele's 'days are numbered'
Politico ^ | 3/12/09 | Andy Barr

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell predicted on Thursday that Michael Steele's "days are numbered" as chairman of the Republican National Committee.

"He's in trouble because I just think that those who control the Republican Party don't want a big tent," Rendell told reporters during a lunch hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.

Rendell, a past chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said he believes the approaching special election in New York's 20th Congressional District — to replace Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed senator — is not likely a make-or-break event for Steele, whom Rendell said also faces more fundamental problems.

Uh, no. Besides some public gaffes by Steele, his job is to raise money and win elections. He did fire everyone in the office too, which is a good start.

And “Fast Eddie” the corrupt dim is an expert on the subject of Mr. Steele and the RNC because?

He always reminds me of a sleezy used car salesman.

The GOP refuses to accept that the squishy people in the middle are just that. They don’t have strong convictions, & thus the goal should be to educate them so that they acquire principled positions & then willingly come in the tent. Instead, the GOP approaches them as if they are “staunch” ... what? Staunch prevaricators? Who can’t possibly be convinced? So the party should become more squishy, like them? Please. Everyone I know who professes to be “in the middle” is painfully uninformed.

The recent election illustrated that uninformed people will default towards treating a presidential election like a vote for American Idol. They’ll follow the herd - but it won’t be the elephant herd. There’s already a big tent for the uninformed & puerile.

I concur. Steele blew it big time when he made his (now infamous) comments on Rush BEFORE he knew what Rush actually said. Steele’s inappropriate remarks only added more grist to the DNC’s Rush Limbaugh attack machine.

IOW, Steele got snookered into helping the Obamoron create a distraction while Obama aggressively pursues his anti-American, marxist agenda.

He shudda kept his mouth shut and focused on his job for the RNC - NOT played politics with the Dems. He did more damage and we don’t need help - we ‘Pubbies can create enough damage by ourselves!!

Besides some public gaffes by Steele, his job is to raise money and win elections.

How is Steele gonna help any GOP candidate win elections when he poo-poos conservative principles, attacks our best cheerleaders, and doesn't defend us from attacks by the opponent?

I liked Mike Steele when he was Lt. Governor of my state. I backed him and voted for him when he ran for US Senate and I still believe he would have been a great governor or senator. But as RNC chief, he continues to bomb badly.

The problem with the “big tent” is that the people who are MOST likely to support the party are pushed out to the edges in favor of weak-kneed, mealy-mouthed policies that betray the core principles of the main body of the people.

“According to Blackwell:

“Chairman Steele, as the leader of America’s Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work — or get out of the way.”

Steele needs the boot!

that’s what the GOP doesn’t understand

What you apparently don't understand is that we conservatives are a minority faction.

In the tent there will be RINO’s, Liberal Republicans, Big Government Republicans, Big Business Republicans, ‘Sensible’ Gun Control Republicans, any dumb Republican that has no thoughts besides those delivered.

Rendell is wrong. That’s a pretty big tent.

No doubt if some Republican were to say "Ed Rendell's days are numbered" he'd get a visit from the Secret Service.

I suspect there will be no federal officer visiting Ed Rendell.

We just want the tent to include conservatives, Ed.

Don't be silly. The RNC wants conservatives.

They want conservatives to donate
They want conservatives to work their butts off volunteering for GOP candidates
They want conservatives to GOTV
They want conservatives to shut up and sit down after we win elections for them

There now...don't you feel wanted?

Ya, and Reagan was once a Democrat. Let’s drum him out of the party (posthumously) too!

"He's in trouble because I just think that those who control the Republican Party don't want a big tent," Rendell told reporters...

Rendell, it's not the size of the tent - it is what goes on in the tend. The democrats have a tent and the democrats should go to that tent and stay out of the republican tent.

I'm going to wait and see how Steele does his job before I start comparing him to Duncan.

We'll know in 2010 if he's up to the job or not with the election results. Steele's job is to win.

Steele Must Go! He is taking the party in the wrong direction. The party must be rebuilt but not as a Rinosaurus.
