Excerpts from Obama's speech today at the dedication of Abraham Lincoln Hall at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.:
"The attacks of 9/11 signaled the new dangers of the 21st century. And today, our people are still threatened by violent extremists ...
Yet terrorism and extremism make up just one part of the many challenges that confront our nation. ... A historic economic downturn has put at stake the prosperity that underpins our strength, while putting at risk the stability of governments and the survival of people around the world. ... Poverty, disease, the persistence of conflict and genocide in the 21st century challenge our international alliances, partnerships and institutions -- and must call on all of us to reexamine our assumptions.
These are the battlefields of the 21st century. These are the threats that we now face. And in these struggles, the United States of America must succeed -- and we will succeed.
We also know that the old approaches won't meet the challenges of our time. ... No army -- no matter how strong -- can eliminate every adversary. No weapon -- no matter how powerful -- can erase the hatred that lies in someone's heart.
So it falls to institutions like this -- and to individuals like you -- to help us understand the world as it is, to develop the capacities that we need to confront emerging danger, and to act with purpose and pragmatism to turn this moment of peril into one of promise. That's how we will find new pathways to peace and security. That is the work that we must do.
Now, make no mistake: This nation will maintain our military dominance. ...
But we also need to look beyond this conventional advantage as we develop the new approaches and new capabilities of the 21st century -- and in that effort, this university must play a critical role.
America must also balance and integrate all elements of our national power. We cannot continue to push the burden on to our military alone, nor leave dormant any aspect of the full arsenal of American capability. And that's why my administration is committed to renewing diplomacy as a tool of American power, and to developing our civilian national security capabilities. This effort takes place within the walls of this university, where civilians sit alongside soldiers in the classroom. And it must continue out in the field, where American civilians can advance opportunity, enhance governance and the rule of law, and attack the causes of war around the world. We have to enlist our civilians in the same way that we enlist those members of the armed services in understanding this broad mission that we have.
Well, here's an excerpt from a related FR thread from four weeks ago:
A little-publicized Department of Defense Directive (Number 1404.10) establishes a "DoD Civilian Expeditionary Workforce" and rescinds a prior directive dealing with the emergency use of civilian personnel.
The new 1404.10, dated January 23, 2009 -- just three days after the inauguration -- is effective immediately, and cancels the prior directive of the same designation ("Emergency-Essential (E-E) DoD U.S. Citizen Civilian Employees"), that was issued in 1992 under President Clinton. The 1992 directive specifically deals with overseas deployments of civilian personnel, and mentions the term "overseas" no fewer than 33 times.
The new directive does not mention the term "overseas" in the body of the directive even once. The word "overseas" appears in the new Directive 4 times: once as as a reference; once to describe a database "code"; once to describe the code values; and once in the Glossary. In other words, the new Directive doesn't apply to the overseas deployment of civilians at all, but applies to their deployment in the United States mainland.
The previous Directive does not mention "restoration of order" or "stability operations." These operations are prominently featured in the new directive. In fact, these functions are central to the mission of Obama's new DoD Civilian Expeditionary Workforce:
Members of the DoD Civilian Expeditionary Workforce shall be organized, trained, cleared, equipped, and ready to deploy in support of combat operations by the military; contingencies; emergency operations; humanitarian missions; disaster relief; restoration of order; drug interdiction; and stability operations of the Department of Defense in accordance with DoDD 3000.05...
While the directive suggest that the DoD will seek volunteers, Section 4 (d), subsection {e} paragraph 2 states: Management retains the authority to direct and assign civilians either voluntarily, involuntarily, or on an unexpected basis to accomplish the DoD mission.
You got that right! Bring them on.

Michelle’s Boot Camps For Radicals
By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Thursday, September 04, 2008 4:20 PM PT
Election ‘08: Democrats’ reintroduction of militant Michelle Obama in Denver was supposed to show her softer side. But it only highlighted a radical part of her resume: Public Allies.
IBD Series: The Audacity Of Socialism
Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, “Universal Voluntary Public Service.”
Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they’ll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of “social change.”
The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn’t seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year “community leadership” positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They’ll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats.
In exchange, they’ll get a monthly stipend of up to $1,800, plus paid health and child care. They also get a post-service education award of $4,725 that can be used to pay off past student loans or fund future education.
But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about “social change” through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul “The Red” Alinsky.
“Our alumni are more than twice as likely as 18-34 year olds to . . . engage in protest activities,” Public Allies boasts in a document found with its tax filings. It has already deployed an army of 2,200 community organizers like Obama to agitate for “justice” and “equality” in his hometown of Chicago and other U.S. cities, including Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Washington. “I get to practice being an activist,” and get paid for it, gushed Cincinnati recruit Amy Vincent.
Public Allies promotes “diversity and inclusion,” a program paper says. More than 70% of its recruits are “people of color.” When they’re not protesting, they’re staffing AIDS clinics, handing out condoms, bailing criminals out of jail and helping illegal aliens and the homeless obtain food stamps and other welfare.
Public Allies brags that more than 80% of graduates have continued working in nonprofit or government jobs. It’s training the “next generation of nonprofit leaders” future “social entrepreneurs.”
The Obamas discourage work in the private sector. “Don’t go into corporate America,” Michelle has exhorted youth. “Work for the community. Be social workers.” Shun the “money culture,” Barack added. “Individual salvation depends on collective salvation.”
“If you commit to serving your community,” he pledged in his Denver acceptance speech, “we will make sure you can afford a college education.” So, go through government to go to college, and then go back into government.
Many of today’s youth find the pitch attractive. “I may spend the rest of my life trying to create social movement,” said Brian Coovert of the Cincinnati chapter. “There is always going to be work to do. Until we have a perfect country, I’ll have a job.”
Not all the recruits appreciate the PC indoctrination. “It was too touchy-feely,” said Nelly Nieblas, 29, of the 2005 Los Angeles class. “It’s a lot of talk about race, a lot of talk about sexism, a lot of talk about homophobia, talk about -isms and phobias.”
One of those -isms is “heterosexism,” which a Public Allies training seminar in Chicago describes as a negative byproduct of “capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and male-dominated privilege.”
The government now funds about half of Public Allies’ expenses through Clinton’s AmeriCorps. Obama wants to fully fund it and expand it into a national program that some see costing $500 billion. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the military, he said.
The gall of it: The Obamas want to create a boot camp for radicals who hate the military and stick American taxpayers with the bill.
Look up Lenin’s Cheka, folks.
Wow. Excellent analogy!
Very sad. Hope more than a rare few know to what you refer.
so am I and what’s so stupefying is all his gloom and doom and he’s throwing his rhetoric around just like he did with the libtard financial mess we are in now. I bet you he’ll go with the gloom & doom until he gets what he wants on this front. shhheeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssshhhhhhhhh what a downer.
People, you better get ready,”I urge you to watch this.”! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bggXQxhyo4s&eurl=http://www.ignatius-piazza-front-sight.com/2009/03/02/patriot-or-traitor/

Fascism, the new American way.
The New Hitler Youth.
Bring it. Seriously.

This idiot commie is going to get so many people PO’d he’s going to regret ever infesting the White House.
Obama might not want to encourage this because the citizens could well take it to heart and it could (and probably would) work against him. He could end up very, very sorry he even suggested this.
Where do you think this empty suit got this idea? More than likely over “coffee” at Bill and Bernadine's casa ...that whole area is entrenched with 60’s radicals of all colors. They have waited so long to be in complete control and now they figure their chance has finally come.
Things alike:
In Iran: “The Niruyeh Moghavemat Basij - the Mobilisation Resistance Force - was the strong right arm of Ayatollah Khomeini. Its volunteers were martyred in their tens of thousands in the Iran-Iraq war, and were given the role of moral police at home.”
http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/world/iran/basij.htm
In The Soviet Union: “The Cheka was created in December 1917, over a month after the October Revolution and the formation of the Bolshevik government. ... At the direction of Lenin, the Cheka performed mass arrests, imprisonments, and executions of “enemies of the people”. In this, the Cheka said that they targeted “class enemies” such as the bourgeoisie, and members of the clergy; the first organized mass repression began against the libertarian Socialists of Petrograd in April 1918. However, within a month the Cheka had extended its repression to all political opponents of the communist government, including anarchists and others on the left.”

They are to control people who oppose socialism.
Round them up, send them to re-education camps.
Thanks for posting that info. We need to inform as many people as possible about this issue. I have no doubt that 0, and his staff in the White Hut, fully intend to implement some sort of force modeled after these groups.
I hear they plan on giving free swimming lessons to the campers, too!
I sorta picture these guys having more resemblance to farrakhan's bodyguards.
