COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) -- The United States faces a Zimbabwe-style economic collapse if it keeps "spending a bunch of money we don't have," South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said Wednesday.
Sanford, a Republican, has been an outspoken critic of the Obama administration's $800 billion stimulus plan. He said he'll turn down about a quarter of his state's $2.8 billion share unless Washington lets him use that money to pay down debt.
"What you're doing is buying into the notion that if we just print some more money that we don't have and send it to different states, we'll create jobs," he said. "If that's the case, why isn't Zimbabwe a rich place?"
Zimbabwe has been in the throes of an economic meltdown ever since the southern African nation embarked on a chaotic land reform program. Its official inflation rate topped 11 million percent in 2008, with its treasury printing banknotes in the trillion-dollar range to keep up with the plummeting value of its currency.

The fed has usurped the governor’s authority with the go-around written into the spendigulous bill. Will he challenge it?
Thanks for that ping!! Hopefully, Gov. Sanford will get even more coverage and people will realize quickly before it’s too late just how badly our Congress, some state goobernturds, the MSM, and Zer0 are screwing the US citizen for the near and long term futures with the ability to keep what they (the citizens and our offspring) earn.
Dream on. At this point conservatives need all the hope they can get. For that matter, America needs more hope, but won’t get it from Obama.
Actions not words, but he’s a man of words.
Comrade 0bobo, Comrade Mugabe....we shall see how the media treats this Sanford remark
Amazing!
24 posts and not one Keynesian apologist posting yet!
Wait for it; they'll be here.
But a Zimbabwe type economy is EXACTLY what he wants! He destroys all the wealth in the country, destroys the middle class, makes practically everyone dependent on the government, AND “pays off the debt”. So what if the debt is $10 trillion? Before the zero is through, $10 trillion won’t buy a gallon of gas.
A girl can dream, cant she?"
Keep on dreaming if you want to, wtt, but IMO, they will not change now or ever.
The MSM is fully invested in socialism, and they will continue to do whatever they can to promote it and their favorite politicians.
They would sooner go down with the ship rather than turn to the "dark side" of conservatism.
Don’t mistake my dreaming for sitting around day dreaming. I will fight with every fiber of my being for this country’s freedom from tyranny. The dream just keeps me stoked, kind of like visualizing myself thin while I munch on carrot sticks :)
10 billion % inflation per year!

Mark Sanford 2012!
Sanford is a staunch conservative/libertarian across the board.
“Will the drive-byes bring in this racial angle?”
Sanford is exactly right. Who cares what the Left does about it?
I do not assume that you do nothing.
as just cautioning you against hold out false hope.
This suggests a conservative strategy. The conservative States should continue to run their affairs according to sound economic principles. Let the floundering Dem run States continue to spend government money like there’s no tomorrow. Perhaps the difference will be noted by some of the dead-headed voters.
Thanks to South Carolina for electing a few politicians that inspire confidence.
Sanford rejects federal funding

Here’s the REAL STORY: Clyburn says the remark about Zimbabwe was RACIST after earlier saying not taking stimulus money was a slap in the face of African-Americans.
May I interpret that for Mr. Clyburn since it may not be clear what he means; The “stimulus money” is for buying African American votes and we will not allow you to get in the way of our corruption.
