Remember when Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin accused journalist Katie Couric of "exploiting" their disastrous exchange the one in which Palin couldnt name some of running mate John McCains policies? Courics work obviously paid off, because the 52-year-old today received the prestigious Walter Cronkite Award for the exchange. The Baltimore Sun elaborates:
"Couric, who weathered one of network TVs most criticized anchor-desk launches when she took over from interim anchor Bob Schieffer, was named winner of the University of Southern Californias Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in TV Political Journalism for her focused and illuminating interviews with Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The award is given by the Lear Center in the School of Journalism.
"And then, Couric and CBS News withstood a withering attack from the right angered by seeing their candidate so exposed."
No word on whether Palin plans on sending her congratulations, although were not holding our breath.
Heh... the journalistic version of the Iron Cross.
So Little Katie gets a pat on the back from an industry only slightly less incestuous than Hollywood and it’s supposed to mean something? Well whoop dee friggen do!
Did anybody see Ziegler’s documentary on the last campaign? I thought it was going to explain some of the editing techniques they used on the Couric-Palin interview.
I can’t justify $19.95 right now for the DVD.
Libturds rewarding a libturd. Nothing new.
It was an overall unfair interview. Asking her what she reads off the cuff and what supreme court rulings she does not agree with is unfair the way asked. If she asked them in a less snotty type way it might have allowed Sarah to give an answer.
So Katie Colinic got the Cranky Cronkite Award. Figures.
A “news reader” wins this award...amazing!!!
Next time I have someone under oath I’ll go ahead and ask then “what do you read, list it all and I hope you won’t mind me going to the library and netflix to check your habits as has been done with Sarah Palin and Clarence Thomas”.
BTW, it was the financial crisis not the Couric interview, that was the defining moment in the past presidential campaign. And McCain blew it.
It’s appropriate; a liar wins a liar’s award. I’d be ashamed if I “won” an award like this. Who was the runner up, Brian Williams?
Obama won in 2008 - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
lol.
Republicans need to only do live interviews. The Palin/Couric interview was emblematic of the galactic cluelessness of the McCain Campaign-their handling of Palin was atrocious, and it showed. Had she been able to communicate by talking to Rush, Hannity, and Fox first, that would have allowed her to get ready for far more partisan and hostile interviewers.
Republicans always have to assume that the Mainstream Press is in the Enemy Camp. McCain didn't. He trusted them. Now he's out on his ass.
Here's a prediction. Sarah Palin won't make that mistake.
Best,
Chris
Wow! I’m impressed. Perky Katie won the coveted “Fake but Accurate” award!
More to the point.
I remember that very well too, still burns me to this day.
The Cronkite Award,big big barf
Considering Walter Crankcase's body of work, I wouldn't consider that much of an award.
how apprprpriate. 15 april is the day titanic sank.
