Fineman: A Turning Tide? (establishment worried "president may not have what it takes")
Newsweek ^ | Mar 10, 2009 | Howard Fineman

Posted on 03/10/2009 7:39:55 PM PDT by GOPGuide

Surfer that he is, President Obama should know a riptide when he's in one. The center usually is the safest, most productive place in politics, but perhaps not now, not in a once-in-a-century economic crisis.

Swimming in the middle, he's denounced as a socialist by conservatives, criticized as a polite accommodationist by government-is-the-answer liberals, and increasingly, dismissed as being in over his head by technocrats.

Luckily for Obama, the public still likes and trusts him, at least judging by the latest polls, including NEWSWEEK's.But, in ways both large and small, what's left of the American establishment is taking his measure and, with surprising swiftness, they are finding him lacking.

They have some reasons to be concerned. I trace them to a central trait of the president's character: he's not really an in-your-face guy.

he's not really an in-your-face guy.

I wonder what Putin would think if he read this article?

He’s extremely in-your-face. He ridicules and attacks private citizens, he reacts like a lunatic to any criticism, people are scared to criticize him...how much more “in your face” do they want?

Gee, doya think? We have a guy who never ran anything at all and who was a first term Senator who was almost never in town. Why would you think a person like that would be up to the task of being President of the United States?

When I saw that headline, I thought how much it seemed like American Idol and all those other crap reality shows where they downplay certain candidates to create that come-from-behind victorious thrill.

I think this is part of a plan. They all distance themselves from him. He has some successes. Then, when they come back in full support, it is because he has “proven himself.”

Howard can write this in complete safety....he’s happy to have all Dems all the time at the helm. He also knows nothing is going to threaten that.

What's amazing is that Fineman still thinks Obama is a centrist!

Maybe it is Howard's method of addressing the fact that Bama can not speak coherently without a prompter.

May not have what it takes?

Those of us who have 1) trained pilots, 2) taught at the graduate level, or 3) just plain observed folks KNOW that the loon doesn’t have what it takes.

What is strange is that once one accepts the above premise, one must wonder just exactly how the loon got into and graduated from Harvard law.

And then one knows why those records are sealed.

Howard Fineman is giving Obama waaayy too much benefit of the doubt. It’s like Howard is saying: ‘Obama must be brilliant, and this must be a deeply planned strategy. Why, we elected him President, didn’t we?’

How’s this for ‘in your face’: “You can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig.” quote candidate Obama.

BO is an exceptionally good speaker and his campaign team were also quite good and they talked their way into something that is way over BO’s head. So BO is shocked at the sheer volume of work that comes to his desk.

I talked to a BO voter this weekend who totally regrets her vote - she wanted to know what we can do to get rid of him. I said we have to elect Republicans in 2010 but frankly, too many of the Republicans still have too much trouble finding the guts to act like conservatives.
