Obama administration: Only 5 percent of the Taliban is incorrigible (I wish this were satire...)
The London Spectator ^ | March 10, 2009 | James Forsyth

Chuck Todd at First Read flags up some fascinating comments from Vice-President Biden on his visit to Nato:

“5 percent of the Taliban is incorrigible, not susceptible to anything other than being defeated. Another 25 percent or so are not quite sure, in my view, the intensity of their commitment to the insurgency. And roughly 70 percent are involved because of the money, because of them being -- getting paid.”

Biden goes onto say that the “idea of what concessions would be made is well beyond the scope of my being able to answer, except to say that whatever is initiated will have to be ultimately initiated by the Afghan government, and will have to be such that it would not undermine a legitimate Afghan government.”

Any successful strategy in Afghanistan is going to have to aim to peel off those members of the Taliban who are persuadable. But it is interesting, and important, that Biden makes clear that the Afghan government--not the Americans or Nato--will be in the lead on this.

"comments from Vice-President Biden"

And remember - Biden is considered the 0bama Administration's #1 Foreign Policy "expert."

Bwahaa!!

If this had been one of Sarah Palin quotes, she'd have been shoved onto the turnip truck by the WaPo, the Times, and Herr Olbermann.

I think the Liberal position is if a few thousand folks get blown up from time to time we can live with that.

5% incorrigible?

That’s a lot better than the current West Wing occupants-only 5% of them AREN’T incorrigible.

Now he's just making up crap again. And he's still an incorrigible asshat.

By definition, the Taliban has no moderate elements. Contrary to his running mouth, just about every savage who joins the Taliban does so out of religious and ideological fervor.

Reminds me of what this idiot said shortly after 9/11:

At the Tuesday-morning meeting with committee staffers, Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: "I'm groping here." Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we're not bent on its destruction. "Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran," Biden declares. He surveys the table with raised eyebrows, a How do ya like that? look on his face.

The staffers sit in silence. Finally somebody ventures a response: "I think they'd send it back." Then another aide speaks up delicately: "The thing I would worry about is that it would almost look like a publicity stunt." Still another reminds Biden that an Iranian delegation is in Moscow that very day to discuss a $300 million arms deal with Vladimir Putin that the United States has strongly condemned. But Joe Biden is barely listening anymore. He's already moved on to something else.
