My Beef With Ann Coulter

It is no secret that being a Republican isnt the most hip political stance a person can take right now. President Obama has successfully established himself as the hippest politician around. You know youre big when Katy Perry wears a dress with your face on it to host the MTV Europe Music Awards. To my fellow Republicans: Im sorry, I wish I could be more positive about the current hipness of our party. But being a Republican is about as edgy as Donny Osmond. Granted, being hip is not a reason to join a political party, or a reason to agree with its ideals. But it is a way to get the attention of a generationor, more specifically, my generation.
To make matters worse, certain individuals continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes about Republicans. Especially Republican women. Who do I feel is the biggest culprit? Ann Coulter. I straight up dont understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time. But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied. She is a New York Times best-selling author and one of the most notable female members of the Republican Party. She was one of the headliners at the recent CPAC conference (but when your competition is a teenager who has a dream about the Republican Party and Stephen Baldwin, its not really saying that much).

Just dropping in to say, I am not reading any more of these articles demeaning any conservatives. Especially those that say they are conservatives and talk like leaning over the left edge liberals, like Frum and C Buckley.

I thought Megan was cool last week. Now she sounds like a DU member who think that ‘cool’ and ‘hip’ are more important than truth and liberty.

Have you read any of her books? If you call the truth "shock value," then I might agree with you. I've read a lot of her articles, and a few excerpts from her books.
The problem is that Ann doesn't just "tell the truth," she tells it a venomous way that is calibrated to draw attention to Ann.

I agree with you completely.
I don't understand how a woman could date several people whose politics she's publicly claimed to despise. There is a certain disconnect there that I find disturbing.
Also, as much as it pains me to say this and agree with anything the vacuous Ms. McCain has to say, there is an absolute problem with the GOP's inability to connect to young people. Denying it does not make it go away.
I was in high school when President Reagan was in office, and kids in high school and college loved him to bits. Students for Reagan, College Conservatives, Young Republicans, etc. He was traditional, he was older than many previous presidents, he was painted as being out of touch, and yet high school/college age young adults could not have loved or admired or "got" President Reagan more.
Those young people are now my friends and family. We have our own kids, many of or approaching college and high school age.
Collectively, though, for the most part, even though our kids are conservative, they do not vote Republican.

What would one expect from an airhead that voted for John Kerry in 2004?

Poor Meg Hen
h/t Ace's blog -- I realize this might sound terribly inconvenient, Meghan. But have you considered going out into the real world and accomplishing something besides graduating college before convincing yourself that any one outside your family gives a damn what you think? We don't really value the whole Kennedy-kid thing over here on the Right. As Daddy isn't going to need a campaign prop for at least two years, surely there's something productive you could do in the mean time.

Meghan McCain on Coulter: 'offensive' and 'insulting'
Meghan McCain gets off the topic of dating today on The Daily Beast, instead taking shots at Ann Coulter and her role in the Republican party. The Senator's daughter calls Coulter "offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time."
I am not suggesting that extreme conservatism wasnt once popular, nor am I suggesting I should in any way be any kind of voice for the party. I have been a Republican for less than a year. Still, even after losing the election, I find myself more drawn to GOP ideals and wanting to fight for the partys resurgence. And if figureheads like Ann Coulter are turning me off, then they are definitely turning off other members of my generation as well. She does appeal to the most extreme members of the Republican Partybut they are dying off, becoming less and less relevant to the party structure as a whole.
McCain said she'll be in New York tonight for Coulter's debate with Bill Maher. Will Coulter respond on stage?

Sen. McCain's daughter, pictured on the left, is speaking out on the impact of her father's latest presidential campaign on her personal life.
(CNN) Meghan McCain says that "nothing kills my libido quite like discussing politics" and that the presidential election "killed my personal life."
"OK, maybe killed is a bit of an exaggeration," she wrote in a blog post for The Daily Beast published Monday. "But it does seem to be on life support. Of all the things people warned would happen post-election, no one ever said anything about how complicated dating would become. Especially if your dad loses the election. There are things that have been difficult, but nothing quite as tough as dating. I fear the election has destroyed my ability and desire to date. Now, I cannot say at any point in my life that I have been very good at dating. But I have become something I used to despise: people who let politics dictate his or her attraction to someone."
She said one fan of her mother, Cindy McCain, recently told her she could be "his Cindy," and asked if she ever wore pearls like her mother did. "Any guy that has a fetish for older women in pantsuits and large pearls obviously only finds my last name attractive about me," she wrote.
McCain said she did not care who her friends supported during the campaign, and that she believed political views were personal "but when it comes to dating, it's become an entirely different subject. And I promise, no one is more surprised by this revelation than I am.
If I am adult enough to understand that voting is one of the most personal things a person can do, why am I letting it affect how attracted to someone I am? I know that no one can really explain sexual attraction and why you are drawn to someone or not but at this point in time, nothing kills my libido quite like discussing politics."

Not me...but I have a natural beauty. She, on the other hand has a painted face and bleached hair that makes her look like any other bimbo in Hollywood. You are simply lovely. I would do anything for your beautiful hair; I've been growing mine out for years, and it is long, but nowhere near as thick or shiny as yours is. I an green with envy.
I'm in my fifties, never have dyed my hair and have never worn make-up. My husband would take me over that peroxide blonde any day of the week.
My husband doesn't like overly-made up, either.

Kerry was FOUR years ago. That’s a world apart from an 18 to 22 year old.

You should never join a political party based on how 'hip' it is. If you do so, you are joining for the wrong reason, Megan. Get a grip.
You know youre big when Katy Perry wears a dress with your face on it to host the MTV Europe Music Awards
I would consider a stamp of approval from a cultural cesspool like Hollywood to be an insult, not an honor, sweetie.
Ann Coulter. I straight up dont understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time.
There are numerous examples of outspoken, brash people like Ann on the liberal side of the isle (Franken, Garfolo, The hens on The View, etc etc) yet you and the democrats routinely give them a pass. Why is that, Megan?
FWIW, I became a Conservative under Ronald Reagan, who was considered 'hip' and 'cool' by a large number of young people like me who became known as the Reagan Youth. He captivated us by challenging us with the 'radical' notion that this country's better days were ahead of it, not behind it - 'radical' thinking people like Obama could learn a lot from.

“Also, as much as it pains me to say this and agree with anything the vacuous Ms. McCain has to say, there is an absolute problem with the GOP’s inability to connect to young people. Denying it does not make it go away.”
Or the GOP (and even some people I have run across on this board) acting like if they (young people) don’t like what the 70 year old geezer likes for principle, then they aren’t worth it anyway. Even though we know 90% of them wouldn’t automatically have liked what their dad liked when they were 19. And unfortunately, whether we like it or not, this is a package world. We are in competition to getting out a message and standing out in the rain with a great message doesn’t beat inviting someone inside to a really fun party with a bad message.
I hope that makes sense as a metaphor.

How do you know who Ann Coulter dates?
Young people move right when they begin to pay taxes, and have some responsibility.
“Connecting” to them by approving of gay marriage and abortion will get us no where.
Why did your “conservative” family members vote for Obama?
Just curious, thanks!

I straight up dont understand this woman or her popularity. Well, Megan - if ya ain't got any brains to think with, I'm sure you can still get a job in certain forms of "entertainment" out of the Left Coast...

You are simply lovely. I would do anything for your beautiful hair; I've been growing mine out for years, and it is long, but nowhere near as thick or shiny as yours is.Ahh...now I am embarrassed for begging compliments. I was just making the point that people who paint their face and bleach their hair all look pretty much the same.
Here I am last year:
And then here I am last October just after auctioning off the honor of cutting my hair to raise money for a friend with leukemia. My daughter is next to me in the picture and she had her hair cut off for the same reason minutes before I was scalped. Her haircut is pictured below mine.:

Granted, being hip is not a reason to join a political party, or a reason to agree with its ideals. But it is a way to get the attention of a generationor, more specifically, my generation. Well, Ms. McCain, you seem to have answered your own question.
Those who are interested in an attention-getting party that's in touch with today's (mush-headed) youth should look to the whimsical Democrats. Those who prefer to have actual facts, principles and history on their side, and can do without the cool factor, should join the Republicans.
We prefer thinking adults, thank you very much.

How do you know who Ann Coulter dates?Widely reported. Here is one I can find off the top of my head, regarding her dating Andrew Stein, NY Post.(^).
Young people move right when they begin to pay taxes, and have some responsibility.
They often do. It doesn't seem to be translating to votes, though, does it?
Connecting to them by approving of gay marriage and abortion will get us no where.
I wasn't aware of having said that. Could you point out where I said that? For what it's worth, I do believe that the national party could take a page from the Ronald Reagan playbook and study precisely what he said and did with regards to the Briggs Initiative, though.
Why did your conservative family members vote for Obama?
Could you point out again where I said that anyone in my family voted for Obama? I believe I said "Collectively, though, for the most part, even though our kids are conservative, they do not vote Republican"
How do you figure that not voting for John McCain means automatically voting for Barack Obama?
Just curious, thanks!

Here I am with some young uns' at the Tax Revolt in Fullerton last Saturday. I think the Libertarian branch of the party is thriving. A lot of young people are asking, "Who is John Galt?"
