Barack Obama is a great pretender. He constantly says he's doing things that he isn't, and he relies on his powerful rhetoric to obscure the difference. He has made "responsibility" a personal theme, and the budget's cover line is "A New Era of Responsibility." He claims that the budget begins "making the tough choices necessary to restore fiscal discipline." It doesn't.
If Obama were "responsible," he would be leading a candid conversation about government's size and role. Who deserves support and why? How big can government grow before higher taxes and deficits harm long-term economic growth? Although Obama claims to be doing this, he hasn't confronted entitlement psychologythe belief that government benefits once conferred should never be revokedand asked whether some significant spending no longer serves any "public interest."
It is Obama's conceitperhaps his cockinessthat he can ignore these blatant inconsistencies. Like many smart people, he believes he can talk his way around any problem.

His base doesn’t read Newsweek, so it won’t have an effect
If only he were really a “typical politician”.

The BeeGees “Jive Talking, Obama’s theme song.
This is going to wear thin quickly. All of his verbal Fabreeze can't cover the fecal odor of his actions.

His base doesn't read - they can't.
Ouch! Lets see if Gibbs go after newsweak tomorrow.
You are too optimistic. Samuelson is a moderate conservative economist and a columnist for Newsweek. He does not control their news and editorial policies.
Better put some ice on that....
Welcome to the party pal!
xactly
Monstrous entitlement spending is what promises to buy Dem votes for the foreseeable future. . that and a few RINOs that they need in Congress to keep the entitlements flowing so they can keep the front up of having at least a modicum of “opposition”.
IF Atlas shrugs, it may well be deserved.

LOL, love it. And so true.
Thanks.
Fabreeze, Fabaloney. Cheap perfume to cover the stink of reality
Obama isn’t ignoring the entitlement mentality. He’s counting on it. Newsweak still doesn’t get it.
His ideal of responsibility:
You are responsible for His actions (or inactions)!
What do you mean IF, Dagne?
Robert J. Samuelson’s views don’t represent Newsweek’s editorial slant. Bad title for post. George Will used to write for Newsweek and maybe still does.
