Story now says the Pastor was killed. The killer’s gun jammed, and he then pulled out a knife and stabbed himself. Others injured were trying to subdue the killer.

Gun was a .45.

Arkansas just shot down (pardon the pun) a bill that would remove Churches as a prohibited place under the Arkansas Concealed Handgun Carry Law.

Texas changed the law when lawsuits were threatened. A couple of churches ought to sue the state under federal law.

“Well, they certainly confirmed that the Pastor died soon enough, God rest his soul and comfort his family. So, WHO’S THE PERP????

Come on MSM, GET TO WORK!!”

They got it quickly because an official with the hospital announced he had died. There was no secret MSM trick here. Generally speaking it’s very tough to get a perp ID until the police decide to release it.

A hollowed out bible makes for a discreet holster.....

Please learn from a mistake I made very early in my concealed carry experience. NEVER carry a gun anywhere except attached to your person. Hidden compartments in books, briefcases, etc. will eventually get you in trouble.

That doesn’t make sense. Why wouldn’t he shoot himself?

Gun jammed after he shot the pastor.

Back in the days when every man carried a gun as a part of his habit in dressing and felt undressed without it, every man of any stripe knew it, and there was less trouble than we have now. Now, only the criminals who don’t care about the law carry guns, and the innocent are hurt or killed. Of course, occasionally, the perpetrator gets unlucky.

True but I expect another PERSON OF INTEREST (meaning, of course suspect) announcement at the very least.

Yes, I heard that on Fox News. That is a miracle that no one else could be shot!

Fox web site is reporting that four others *were* shot, in addition to some being stabbed. If correct, I would think that rather than the gun jamming, the killer had emptied it. .45s often only carry 7 rounds + 1 in the chamber. The pastor was reported to have been shot 3 times. If the killer did not top off the magazine after jacking a round into the chamber, then he'd only have had 7 rounds total. And of course the smaller .45s might only have 6 round magazines.

Now it's still early and early reports are often somewhat confused. Still Fox also reports that 5 other people were taken to the hospital. If only one of those slashed could be treated at the scene, that accounts for the 4 others shot and two reported to have been slashed/stabbed.

Maryville is way downstate in Ilinois and is about as un-urban as you can get.

We should all be in favor of separation of church and ‘hate’. Does this shooting fall under the definition of hate crimes?

I sent my pastor the link to the article earlier. He's a good friend mine, one of my main shooting buddies, and a CWP holder and is armed 100% of the time. We're a small congregation. Usually there's "about" 100 people there...give or take some. I've counted seats before and you'd be hard pressed to squeeze 150 into the place. :-) But there are a minimum of SIX of us in that small sanctuary who are carrying everything from Bersa .380s through Colt .45ACPs.

It's unfortunate when a little country church such as ours has as many armed men in one spot on a Sunday morning...but such is the world we live in. :-)

“Joining in prayers for the pastor, his family, and the congregation.

Many churches need to beef up their security in these disturbing times.”

How times have changed.

When I was in my teens in Seattle in the early 60’s, our church didn’t even lock the doors. It was open 24/7 often with nobody inside. Churches used to be sacred, even to the criminals.

I think they have closed the website down, because it doesn’t just seem to be busy, but gone. Probably too many visitors looking up the church after this happened.

Metal detectors, pat downs, and rude attendents (just like at the airport) with a sense of entitlement, will be next. Just watch.
