I wonder if this has anything to do with the bad economy and collection plates. Easy money?

While I do understand your sentiment it made me smile as I thought of an event in the last 10 years. I have long since lost the source. A nut attacked a congregation with a sword, I think it was on the British side of the pond but I could be wrong. As he was stabbing people depserate times call for desperate measures. He was subdued when a deacon and parishoner defended with the only things they had at their disposal, a crucifix removed from a wall and a pipe hastily removed from the organ.

The man walked into the First Baptist Church of Maryville about 20 minutes into this morning's service, approached Winters, had a short conversation with him and then fired four times before his .45-caliber semi-autmatic handgun jammed, Trent said. The first shot clipped a Bible, sending paper shreds into the air like "confetti." Trent said one shot hit Winters, 45, in the chest. "Some thought it was some type of skit or program at the time," Trent said We had skits like that during service all the time. NOT!

you just never know. My ex wife started going to womens bible study and ended up having an affair with some guy from the bible study, turns out it was a co-ed bible study after all, married the guy under california law before the divorce was even final. I guess i didn't "measure up" to the christian standard
At another mega church I went to the pastor got caught with his pants down in the office doing someones beautiful wife, surprised he didn't get shot by the husband for that one,
you just never know, just sayin'

You know I’ve never done research, etc... but a few years back I was working with someone who was trying to change the laws in Denver re: open carry (which should be legal throughout the state technically per Colorado’s Constitution).
Anyway, one of the city councilwomen made a comment like “This isn’t the Wild West. You can’t go around carrying guns out in the open!”. However, I would wager a hefty bet that taking population size into account there is far more crime everyday in Denver NOW than there was when men (and some women, too!) wore spurs and dual-holsters...

The suspect underwent surgery and was listed serious condition, according to Mastor Trooper Timmins. Illinois State Police have someone posted by the suspect's bed around the clock. He is expected to be hospitalized for a few days.
Will the police wait until the suspect is released before they arrest him?

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764
"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference, they deserve a place of honor with all that is good."

6 hours and counting and no announcement as to the perps name or any history on him.
To: LA Woman3
He may have empptied his gun.
I heard a report that the pastor deflected/stopped several of the shots with his Bible before the perp was able to get him. In so doing, the pastor probably saved other lives by causing the perp to expend so many shots on him.

Here is all I could find....
KSDK -- A 27-year-old Troy, Illinois man who is accused of killing a pastor at a Maryville, Illinois church and injuring two church members does not have a criminal history, according to Larry Trent, the Director of Illinois State Police.

The suspect underwent surgery and was listed serious condition, according to Mastor Trooper Timmins. Illinois State Police have someone posted by the suspect's bed around the clock. He is expected to be hospitalized for a few days.

We need to ban liberal churches. Putin will likely welcome you back home. Even if it's no longer called the USSR you still might like the atmosphere.

I was being facetious. While I despise these liberal “churches” I would never seriously advocate banning them.

we will probably never know the motive for this passion play, they usually don't release anything other than "the guy was mentaly disturbed"
I put my money on," the pastor told his pregnant 18 year old girlfriend to break it off with the boyfriend ", (a typical church scenario)

6 hours and counting and no announcement as to the perps name or any history on him. I wonder if this young man was from out of town or if his family is out of town. Any other reason would make you question PC police interference.
