Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president was facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told
Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.
British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.
But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

Ya’ know, I’ve been thinking about this. We gotta give him some slack [NOT!]. After all, this is the first time in his life that the kid has had a real job.
From the article:
The real views of many in Obama administration were laid bare by a State Department official involved in planning the Brown visit, who reacted with fury when questioned by The Sunday Telegraph about why the event was so low-key.
The official dismissed any notion of the special relationship, saying: "There's nothing special about Britain. You're just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn't expect special treatment." The apparent lack of attention to detail by the Obama administration is indicative of what many believe to be Mr Obama's determination to do too much too quickly.
The utter lack of Class and Dignity of this Administration
is appalling! This man is out of place on the world stage.
Isn’t that what they have assistants for...to make wise choices?

Isn’t this the same guy who clucked about how he can focus on several issues at a time during the campaign?
No, it's indicative of being unqualified for the position.
The first affirmative action president.I’m sure he’ll rollout the flying carpet for a Muslim leader!
Feh!
Why is anyone surprised - Obama has never held a responsible job in his life (other than fatherhood), why would he be able to pace himself in the real world?
He’s absolutely underwhelming.
The utter lack of Class and Dignity of this Administration
is appalling! This man is out of place on the world stage.
Isn’t that what they have assistants for...to make wise choices? And what to think of Obama being too tired to give a proper welcome.....Come on Barry...this is the “big leagues” now!

Hilarious. I’ll be looking forward to the Brits dissing him more and more. They don’t like to be treated with disrespect and will continue to hammer Zero.
Obama and his wife are too busy lavishly partying at taxpayers expense. They can’t get over the parties they can throw and the number of guests the can invite.
Oh my goodness - what a disaster this dufus two-bit punk is turning out to be.
I can’t even IMAGINE the coverage this would get if President Bush whined about being stressed, tired, and no time to even think about foreign affairs.
This president is going to crumble under the pressure - just wait until the media turns on him (IF they ever do) and he is being called out for every little thing he does wrong.
I think back to the onslaught President Bush received almost hourly - for EVERYTHING. He even took the blame for problems caused by Democrats and never opened his mouth to whine, let alone fight back.
I would just LOVE to see him have a very public, meltdown, go ballistic and throw a temper tantrum.
I would LOVE IT!
He certainly seems to be the type.
The fact that inside sources close to him are talking is a good sign.
Poor little sock puppet. Poor baby is tired. Perhaps he needs to stop taking those long hot showers in the wee hours of the morning with his little Chicago buttboy, Roehm[ballerina boy]Emanuelle, who also has spectacular suitcases under his eyes, be it duly noted. When one considers that these two are running the government - - - Lord have Mercy.
Maybe Barry had a plate of waffles he had to finish...
To tired and overwhelmed to properly welcome a dignitary and give out the dumbest gift (bet he was re gifting) but not to tired to have his lavish weekly party at tax payers expensive. Poor Obie needs a nap. whine whine whine, feel bad for me causes I am so over whelmed.
He is definitely NOT Presidential material.
Can you even imagine the full blown 24/7 press fury and liberal explosion if a Republican staffer had said that?
We would hear and read about it for months...
The NY Post is reporting that little Rahm has a sign on his
desk-Under Secretary of F-— Y—. He seems to be trying to compensate for his shortcomings all the time.
