Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president has facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.
Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.
British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.
But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".
A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. "I think it's right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn't quite understand the British concerns and didn't get what that was all about."

One can only aspire to make the list and the competition is fierce.
Obama is like a very inexperianced rookie trying to pitch in game 6 of the World Series.
A at a very critical time in American history.
It is the first inning and he is getting hit hard. and we have nobody in the bullpen.
It is going to have to get very very very ugly before the American people have a chance to send in somebody better to pitch in game 7.
They ridiculed Bush for his vacations. How many vacations has Obama taken already since winning the election?

Won't that be Jolly when the 3 AM phone call comes in from NORAD?
Re: “Going to the gym, looking at himself in the mirror, playing basketball, and partying every Wednesday night sure can wear a person out”

Yeah — when I was 20, a million years ago, I was always tired — of course I was out six out of seven nights a week partying but it did cause me to fall asleep at my desk at work frequently. Happily my boss enjoyed living vicariously through my stories so I kept he job.
Bambi had better figure out a way to handle his new job or he’s not gonna have it for long (I hope, I hope, I hope!!!)
You would think he got into the White House on an athletic scholarship.
Maybe ZERO will be TOO EXHAUSTED and TO OVERSTUFFED WITH WAGYU BEEF, Caviar, Lobsters and Champaigne, Booze and Cocaine to react when the 2AM Nuclear Alarm Call comes in as Hillary pointed out so well. If HUSSEIN stiffed the Prime Minister of Our Closest Ally and Most Important Friend, then Why wont he tell the Keeper of The Nuclear Football to get LOST! because he is “Exhausted?”(pickled, smashed, depressed, whatever!)
Obama needs applause. Maybe that doesn’t happen at home so much.
Obama’s got his priorities and they don't include serious stuff. All they want to do is party - at your expense of course ... .
Re: “After all that experience at community organization and that half-term as a senator, who knew we were electing a lightweight, unprepared, puppet?”

Well, WE knew, didn’t we? Sadly our knowledge was not enough to keep Zero’s followers from “electing” him.
State department. heh.
There is NO excuse for his behavior in this matter. He insulted the leader of a country that has stood with us throughout the years. They are our friends. He is pathetic and an embarrassment to America!
Impeach the bast*rd!
Man, that felt good! LOL!
Heck, I miss McCain, let alone someone of "W"'s character (even though I often did not agree with him either). And I positively pine for Ronald Reagan.
The “special relationship” is a totally entrenched part ogf American diplomacy for hundreds of years. Our relationship with France, Britain, and Israel are special and different from all others.
No American President, except for Jimmy Carter and Israel, has ever question the special relationship between the US and Britain.
If they are so insignificant, why has Obama requested a special meeting with Elizabeth II, Queen of England?
Ah Yes! The Photo-Op. In the pretend presidency of BHO, appearances are everything. Let others do the work/
And the puppetteer pulling the strings on this moronic marionette is laughing all the way home.
Oh, we have somebody in the bullpen but its the drunken, hung over former starter with the bad hair transplant.
What are the odds of Clinton coming out against Bama and his administration? He has already told Bama to be a little more postive. Hoping
Well, it's not over his desk, but throughout the campaign there were several pics showing Obama looking tired. Who'd guess this was typical, (we knew LOL!)
I don’t really blame him. I blame the 60+ million buffoons, idiots, and other assorted oxygen thieves who had every opportunity to see this for themselves yet voted for him anyway.
