Suspect busted with stolen car, Shih Tzu
A tip to criminals: If you're driving a stolen car, with a stolen pooch sitting on your right and a marijuana cigarette in the center console, you might want to obey the speed limit.
Ralph Bias, 18, of New Orleans was arrested in Kenner on Tuesday after a police officer stopped him traveling 53 mph in the 2000 block of Vintage Drive, a zone marked for 35 mph, according to Bias' arrest report.
Bias wasn't wearing a seat belt and was driving on a suspended license, the report said. A handrolled marijuana cigarette was recovered from the vehicle, according to the police report.
The officer also found that the 2004 Lexus he was driving had been reported stolen from New Orleans, said Detective Shaun Watson, a Kenner Police Department spokesman.
Sitting on the front passenger seat: a stolen Shih Tzu wearing the tags that list the dog's veterinarian, Watson said.
The officer called the vet and then contacted the owner, who said the pet had been stolen during a home burglary, the report said. That burglary had also been reported to New Orleans police.
In all, Bias was found with stolen items valued at $27,020, including the value of the Lexus, Watson said. The Lexus was stolen from one place in New Orleans and a laptop and the dog from a separate one, Watson said.
Bias was booked with possession of stolen goods, marijuana possession and various traffic offenses. He was released Thursday from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna in lieu of about $6,000 bond. It wasn't clear Friday whether he also will be booked in connection with the two New Orleans burglaries. Bias could not be reached Friday.

A laptop, a Lexus, and a Shih Tzu? This thief certainly has eclectic tastes.
The 27K worth of stolen goods would have probably netted him a couple years, but add in the pot and he is probably going away for life.
