Somewhere in the more than $700 billion stimulus bill just passed by both houses of Congress must be a reference to building more jails, if only as a means of increasing employment. If not, it should have been added as a rider when the bill was worked out between the two houses, because they are gonna need one.
When the Democrats won control of the House of Representatives in 2006, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) became the first woman speaker, she said that she was going to drain the swamp of corruption and end the culture of corruption in Washington, and by implication, corruption around the country.
A little over two years later, the swamp has not been drained but has expanded in size and depth. The corruption among politicians, in this case, mainly Democrats, has also expanded to near-flood conditions, overflowing the swamps and riverbanks of many national, state and local Democratic parties.
Now, dont get me wrong. Im for throwing the Republican crooks out too, and this includes Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska). Rep. Foley (R-Fla.) was thrown out of Congress by his own party even before there was an indictment or trial (neither of which occurred). Rep Vitter (R-La.), got caught up in the D.C. Madame scandal and apologized for it, and still has his seat. No charges were brought against him and despite Democrats calling for his head, or other body parts, this was largely a private matter between himself and his family. I wont even begin to name the Democrats who have cheated on their wives. I havent got enough space for it.
No, wait! I will, for just a few.
“Laws are just for the little people...”
I saw that seed rolling away...
The only thing that Pelosi has done is to turn the swamp of corruption into a lake of corruption.
The only thing that Pelosi has done is to turn the swamp of corruption into a lake of corruption.
Please allow me to make a correction for you
The only thing that Pelosi has done is to turn the swamp of corruption into a lake an ocean of corruption.

Excellent synopsis.
Thanks for the ping!
Laws are just for the little people... and Republicans of all sizes.
The “little people” will awake soon enough, IT. It’s never too late. We do have a Constitution, at least I think we do.

From The Weekly Standard, 'Barack Obama's Lost Years', 08/11/2008:
"Ayers opposes trying even the most vicious juvenile murderers as adults. Beyond that, he'd like to see the prison system itself essentially abolished. Unsatisfied with mere reform, Ayers wants to address the deeper 'structural problems of the system.' Drawing explicitly on Michel Foucault, a French philosopher beloved of radical academics, Ayers argues that prisons artificially impose obedience and conformity on society, thereby creating a questionable distinction between the 'normal' and the 'deviant.' The unfortunate result, says Ayers, is to leave the bulk of us feeling smugly superior to society's prisoners. Home detention, Ayers believes, might someday be able to replace the prison. Ayers also makes a point of comparing America's prison system to the mass-detention of a generation of young blacks under South African Apartheid. Ayers's tone may be different, but the echoes of Jeremiah Wright's anti-prison rants are plain."

Even Knowing all the corruption he mentions, the article still makes compulsive reading. Nice attribute to FReerepublic as well!
I knew that meant it was gonna be a long story.
$700M sounds huge, but it's low by a factor of 1,000 compared to the actual $700B of waste that Pelosi/Obama pushed through.
BTTT
Good catch. I'll see if Max can get that corrected.
