Gibbs knows the art of war (Calls battling Limbaugh, Santelli "fun")
The Hill ^ | March 5, 2009 | Sam Youngman

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs smiled and waved his hands when asked if he was ready to put an end to his battle with conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

“If your enemies are fighting themselves, then don’t get in the way,” Gibbs said.

Gibbs, in an interview with The Hill, acknowledged that the response was a “crude paraphrase” of a passage from Sun Tzu’s The Art of War. But given the former Senate aide’s penchant for battles, it’s not surprising he’s familiar with it.

President Obama’s spokesman and confidant simply characterizes his battles with Limbaugh and CNBC commentators Rick Santelli and Jim Cramer as “fun.”

He adds that the rationale behind engaging those critics from the podium of the White House briefing room is to correct the record on Obama’s policies during times of severe economic uncertainty.

“There’s a certain amount of theater to it that might make it more fun, but it’s important that people understand the policy,” Gibbs said in his West Wing office.

Some in Washington have questioned Gibbs’s decision to name names from the White House podium, which the press secretary conceded Wednesday is “counterproductive.”

“If your enemies are fighting themselves, then don’t get in the way,” Gibbs said.”

Only Democrats are allowed to want their political “enemies” to fail. Republicans are supposed to want the other side to succeed.

Why do we put up with this?

You know it left a mark on the administration when they are acting like its “fun”. Its denying it hurt after you got smacked by an opponent, when in fact it hurt like hell.

Tony Snow didn't work for this White House. This White House has many it regards as enemies, and most of them are Americans.
