Newt Gingrich Eyes 2012 Run
Susan Davis reports on politics.
Newt Gingrich is keeping an eye towards 2012, the former speaker of the House told reporters Thursday evening before a speaking engagement at Randolph Macon College.
Gingrich said he and his wife, Callista, will look seriously and well probably get our family totally engaged, including our two grandchildren, probably in January 2011, and well look seriously at whether or not we think its necessary to do it, he said, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.
And if we think its necessary well probably do it. And if it isnt necessary we probably wont do it, he said.
At the Feb. 28 annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., Gingrich garnered 10% in a straw poll of potential 2012 candidates. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney wonfor the third straight yearwith 20%, followed by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal with 14%, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palinboth of which received 13%.

Really.
He stood with Hillary for nationalization of medical records.
And he sat with Pelosi to call for battling global warming.
Nothing 'twue' about him.
Good fer’ Newt.
He’s turned into a socialist in his old age!
I won’t vote for him.
Go back to sleep, Newt. And stay that way.
BUMP
If Newt gets the nomination, Obama and the Dems will be dancing in the streets. It will mean Four more years.
LOL!!!!
The one good thing about Newt is that he can frame the debate and sell it. He knows how to sell big ideas to mostly ignorant populous. That is what he did with the Contract With America.....
I’m not sure he’d be the best candidate, but he can sure sell our ideology a hell of a lot better than McCain, Romney, Hucka-amnesty, etc.
Mike Pence
I can think of 1, but there’s no way to so much as speak his name without getting flamed here. His detractors will show up in under 5 minutes, so I’ll pass.
I hope you’re not thinking of Keyes.
No, Keyes is too-much-talking-not-enough-engaging for my taste.
There are problems with Newt Gingrich running...however...
I think he stayed out of the running last because he saw that the GOP was going to lose, no matter what. And he let McCain have his “turn.”
He also has kind of stayed out of the limelight, giving an opportunity for other up-and-coming Republicans to show themselves. However, that largely has not happened.
Romney obviously has real problems for various reasons; Sarah Palin is solid, but somewhat inexperienced, and is at least as unpopular with moderates and liberals as Newt.
Bobby Jindal is a pretty solid guy, but doesn’t seem to have the ability to connect with people, at least at this early stage of his career, that will be necessary on the national stage.
The bottom line is that I have mixed feelings about Newt running in 2012. It might work, but who knows? Hopefully, by that time, Obama will have a solid Carteresque approval rating.
Guliani?
Started happy hour early, did you?
Romney? Please no.
John Bolton ..................... Never happen, too John Wayneish to be elected. The Conservative vote alone won’t be enough. Too much of the voting public seem to like the metro sexual man types.
Third wives represent the triumph of hope over experience.
Please RUN, Newt! I wish you wuld have in ‘08!
Eh, I guess it’s all in your perspective. Frankly, I look askance at guys who had “other priorities”.
