(snip)...Christen's application included her membership in several charitable groups, including some from her past, but did not mention that she was on the board of Planned Parenthood in the mid-1990s. The organization, which didn't provide abortions in Alaska until 2003, is now on the opposite side of a Palin-supported bill to require girls under 17 to get parental consent for an abortion. (snip)

She can pick anyone she wants. If she is pro-abortion, Palin has damaged her chances of becoming the GOP nominee in 2012.
Is Smith in fact pro-abortion? Greta did mention that he was backed by (I believe) an evangelical group. Everything seems sketchy. I’m willing to withhold comment until the facts can be established.
No she can’t, see post 37, Alaska law limits her to choosing from those approved by the Judicial board, she had two choices..
That is the ‘pro-life’ group I mentioned.. that is where something fishy is going on.. I found some stuff earlier but I asked it be pulled until I know for sure.. Remember, some ‘Christian’ groups are anything but Christian.
If that’s true then they desperately need to change their state constitution.
I’m curious, is Smith pro-life?
She can’t pick whoever she wants, ONLY those given to her, you have to read the Alaskan State Constitution and the Missouri Plan. She had to pick the lesser of two evils. You really think Sarah Palin, who is pro-life, would pick someone who is pro abortion..come on, lets get real here. If she is pro adoption that’s one thing, but pro abortion, I seriously doubt it. I believe she will issue a statement because of all the ruckus and settle this mess once and for all. Geez this woman can’t get any peace can she
Plenty of evangelical groups these days are preaching about the sin of global warming. See Rick Warren. Endorsement from an evangelical group does not make one conservative.
I think those facts have yet to be clearly established.
Heck no, not even close. He’s VERY pro-abortion
have you been reading the previous posts??? Sarah didn’t have a choice...she had to choose between the two that were given to her...she has in no way, shape or form damaged her chances of becoming the nominee in ‘12. They can try all they want to throw this back in her face, but they won’t get anywhere with it...
Is it true that a pro-life group endorsed him for the position?
I totally agree, the only ones that say it will hurt her chances are the ones that are not supporters of hers to begin with. Does anyone think for a second, that Sarah Palin, pro-life Sarah Palin, knowing she can’t even sneeze without the media and her haters watching and smearing her, would choose someone who is FOR abortion, she knows people are watching, and analyzing every single thing she does. She made the right choice, after reading up on the other guy she had to choose from, I would have chosen Christian too, that Smith guy sounds horrible. If she had chosen Smith they would have been on her for wanting to destroy the chances of Alaska becoming an energy producing state, either way she was screwed.
Then they might be high on something cause from everything I read about him on other boards he is for abortion. Sarah had her reasons to pick this woman, and I trust her judgment, especially after knowing every move she makes someone out there will want to smear her
“A woman AND pro-choice - saraH knocks it out of the park! “
enough of this feminist populism. I want the real conservatism back, the conservatism that didn’t talk about breaking glass ceilings and Title IX. The conservatism that holds that being the best mother to your kids is more important than “having it all.”
dead on barracuda...i think that’s why she requested the additional information about the candidates. she knew the media would go over her decision with a fine toothed comb. well it turns out she made the right one because they’re keeping their mouths shut so far...
It was the lesser of two evils. Smith from my reading over C4P could have gummed up the works on the gaspipe line.
The media will keep mum on this choice. Christen has been one of the media darlings as far as judges are concerned, so they will be pleased with the choice.
Give it a rest-the national Planed Parenthood board has always been abortion promoting and providing. The Alaska board wasn’t somehow more pure. It’s still Planned Parenthood and you look like a nut trying to justify it because you can’t bring yourself to say anything bad about Palin.
Murkowski’s fight with the Alaska Judicial Council was over Superior Court judges. The Council submits nominations for them too. But you’re right, the article didn’t define that.
