CNN) -- Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent, has withdrawn his name from consideration as surgeon general of the United States, an administration official said Thursday.
"Sanjay Gupta was under serious consideration for the job of surgeon general," the official said in an e-mail. "He has removed himself from consideration to focus more on his medical career and his family. We know he will continue to serve and educate the public through his work with media and in the medical arena."
Sources said in January that Gupta met then-President-elect Obama in Chicago, Illinois, in November to discuss the post. Gupta has declined comment.
The transition team was impressed with the combination of Gupta's past government experience, as a White House fellow in 1997 and a special adviser to then-first lady Hillary Clinton, along with his medical career as a neurosurgeon and his communication skills, the transition source said.

already posted a few times.
Sounds more like he finally figured out that he didn’t want to be associated with that “O”batross.
In his place, Kathleen Sebelius has suggested George Tiller. [joke]
I searched the exact title. Mine is the only article listed.
Agreed.
Thanks for posting this thread. It’s much better than the other six already posted.
Do you get the impression that these guys are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship?
I thought the same thing.
“already posted a few times.”
Since I don’t live here in this forum I kind of appreciate people posting articles a number of times. I get to see them. Why don’t you, like all the other posting police, take a holiday. I would think Mr. R and his minions can handle this just fine. Move away from the key board, take the ten steps program out of your parents basement, get a date - get a life - do some research post something more compelling than “already posted a few times.”

No need to be nasty. I prefer one thread with lots of comments to repeated threads with few comments - but that’s just me.
You could always hit the 'report abuse' link and complain to the moderator who could actually do something about the duplication, if it really bothers you that much. I'm sure that they are not aware that they can't handle the flow of the forum without your wisdom and diligence.
Gupta seems like a decent guy who is wise not to get involved with Obama...
My understanding is that he didn’t owe enough in back taxes to qualify for a cabinet level position.
ROFLMAO
Probably saw his savings chopped in half over the past year and decided he better get back to real work as a neurosurgeon.
“No need to be nasty. I prefer one thread with lots of comments to repeated threads with few comments - but thats just me.”
I was not being nasty. My comment stands. If you want to track duplicate posts develop a ping list and alert all of us to the horrors of duplicate posting. I am sure, all six of you, could entertain each other with your research. Since I work miserable hours I am grateful for duplicate posts - some things need repeating. Multiple posts inspire divergent thought. Your single thread concept promotes one dimensional silliness.
You opened the thread and did not comment on Dr. Gupta or the substance of the post but only to comment on it being a duplicate. That speaks volumes. If you have thoughts on the substance of the post please share them. If your only skill is searching for duplicate posts apply for the position of moderator.
but thats just me.

I wouldn't want to be associated with the worst President since Jimmy Carter...
