Obama Health-Care Hype: Three Examples
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

From Pres. Obama’s just-concluded remarks at the big health-care forum in DC, kicking off his administration’s efforts to achieve major reform this year, come three examples of the kind of hype that portend . . . ill.

PRES. OBAMA: I know people are skeptical about whether Washington can bring about this change. Our inability to reform healthcare in the past is just one example of how special interests have had their way and the public interest has fallen by the wayside. And I know people are afraid we’ll draw the same old lines in the sand and give into the same entrenched interests and arrive back at the same stalemate that we’ve been stuck in for decades. But I’m here today and I believe you’re here today because I believe this time is different. This time the call for reform is coming from the bottom up, and from all across the spectrum: from doctors, from nurses, from patients, from unions, from businesses, from hospitals, health-care providers, community groups. It’s coming from mayors and governors and legislatures. Democrats, Republicans.

The president seems to suggest a consensus among the members of the laundry list he ticked off. The only enemy he sees are the “special interests,” AKA the “entrenched interests.” But aren’t the groups on that very same laundry list also . . . special interests themselves? Special interests are not some bogeyman. They are everyman, exercising their rights to petition government for a redress of grievances through a variety of groups and means. For the president to suggest a consensus of “us” against the enemy of unidentified “special interests” is profoundly misleading.

It’ll work this time because we’re so damn much smarter than anyone that has tried it before...

just give us enough money and power, and you’ll see.

You are watching an inexperienced, arrogant, ignorant, kooky socialist at work.

Why should he worry about ruining a great health care system? This is teh same administration that keeps making just insane statements and policies to combat the Earth threatening global warming nonsense.

Aren’t Diane Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi’s husbands net worth affected by his policies? Or are they exempt from their stock going down with the rest of the country?

He also said his policies regarding health care reform would cure cancer. I thought he was the Messiah, can’t he cure it himself??? Just walk through any cancer ward, Mr Obama and heal the sick.

I think Obama’s statement that we will cure cancer to be ignorant as well as cruel, and on the level of the worst scam artists and those evangelists who are frauds. With the multitude of cancers and the complexity of each one, the claim to “cure cancer” is the kind of thing the FDA would prosecute.
