Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's president, has ordered the army to temporarily take control of the country's rice processing plants.

The move on Saturday comes as Chavez said that the businesses were not cooperating with price regulations.

"I have ordered the immediate intervention in all those sectors of agro-industry, intervention by the revolutionary government," Chavez said during a speech.

"This government is here to protect the people, not the bourgeoisie or the rich," he said.

The army has been ordered to intervene in all rice factories in the Latin American nation.

It certainly appears things are spinning out of control down there. Chavez built his empire on a house of cards, or shall we say bread and circuses. Oil prices are way down, inflation is at 31 percent, price controls aren’t working as well as he hoped. Another article indicated the Cargil plant was “temporarily” taken over because it failed to print the government-mandated price on its packaging of rice while it appears Cargil is saying the offending rice packaging isn’t intended for the end consumer but for another processing. (Incidentally I have a few manufactured items from the old Soviet Union which have the price permanently affixed like a brand.) Government intervention with the market is a never-ending spiral of further intervention. Obama, are you listening?

Dehumanizing a group is the first step in persecution.

Being rich is bad. Making money is evil. Hire people who need a job, not people who can actuall do something productive.

I'm reading Atlas Shrugged again. It is scary how the logic of the left is so clearly describrd there.

It doesn't mean much. I have old coke bottles with the price printed right on them. In an economy with low inflation this isn't a problem. Of course Hugo has > 30% inflation so in this case fixing the price is a total CF. I just hope Hugo burns and doesn't get away with it like Mugabe, but I'm not holding my breath.

SO long as Hugo has friends willing to prop him up he won’t burn. He’s smart to have done so much globe-trotting looking for friends, especially friends of a feather who will stick together.

Define “temporarily takeover”..................

For as long as Chavez lives.

Get ready for a wave of Venezuelans in the US as their food supply dries up.

Stalin ordered all the grain quota’s filled too, and took every scrap of grain from every farmer. 10 million Ukrainians (many million more by other counts) starved to death.

A scenario coming to you, shortly. (compliments of Obama)

Obama will make Stalin look like a piker.
