Obama Looks To Repeal Military Gay Ban
WTOV-TV / The Associated Press ^ | March 4, 2009

The White House says President Barack Obama has begun consulting his top defense advisers on how to lift a ban on gays serving openly in the military.

But the administration won't say how soon that might happen or whether a group of experts will be commissioned to study the issue in-depth, as some Democrats have suggested.

The move enables Obama to say he's making good on his campaign promise to reverse the law, but doesn't lock him into doing so anytime soon. The carefully calculated statement, released this week by White House spokesman Tommy Vietor, leaves enough wiggle room to prevent the hot-button issue from consuming Obama's foreign policy agenda, which is dominated by ending the Iraq war and salvaging operations in Afghanistan.

"The president supports changing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell," Vietor said in the e-mailed statement.

"As part of a long-standing pledge," Obama has begun consulting closely with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen "so that this change is done in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security," Vietor said.

The statement was released in response to legislation reintroduced by Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif., that would repeal the ban. Tauscher's bill attracted 148 co-sponsors last year, but House leadership never pushed for a floor vote.

If you have children of enlistment age (17-45) counsel them accordingly.

Now what will men like Jamie Farr’s MASH character do when they want to be sent home? (FTR, Farr is a Republican.) :-)

I’d like to see the different Branches be allowed to try different stands on Gays in service.

The 1st enlistment should stay “don’t ask, don’t tell”, for most branches.

Then each Branch could be allowed to Re-enlist quality Gay troops, and offer differing levels of “out of the closet” options, as an addition to the old Cash or extra Leave Bonuses.

Canning a General, for coming “Out” seems foolish to Me.

I am glad Obama is addressing this issue since he has so much spare time. I mean, in between their lavish parties.

The douchebag in chief wouldn't dare.

He's lying to the homos, he knows the military would string him up if he tried it.

I've been thinking about this a lot since Barry's election, knowing that it was going to happen.

I can't see any good outcomes (no pun intended). Look, I'm not homophobic. Gay people want to be Drs. or Lawyers or whatever, it's none of my damn business. But, the military is such a completely different animal, this is going to absolute chaos.

I'm not being funny or flippant when I say, in four or five years you will see SIGNFICANT discipline problems, mostly related to the gay lifestyle and it's undeniable, rampant (and grotesque) problems with promiscuity - especially in the male ranks. The queers just can't keep their hands off each other - it's not a stereotype it is just a fact.

The left figures if we don’t have a military there will be peace. After all you can’t make war without an army...

So anything that divides the military and causes a reduction in recruiting (shrinking the man power - no pun intended...) advances their goals.

The left is completely clueless how the world really works. And think the relative peace for the last several decades is in spite of our military.

Hard and deadly lessons coming to all...

“Democracy and liberalism are not a sufficient defence and this is a fact that the ideologues of ‘freedom’ need, equally, to comprehend. There is a fatal flaw in the liberal mind. Having established, in structure and form [though seldom in substance], a system of governance that corresponds to its conception of democracy, it feels that nothing more needs to be done. The ‘Truths’ of the liberal ideology are, as the American Declaration on the Rights of Man expresses it, ‘Self Evident’. They require no proof, no reiteration, and no defence - certainly no defence by force of arms. Once democracy [or even the ritual of quinquinneal elections] is established, according to liberal mythology, the mystical ‘invisible hand’ keeps everything in place; the ‘superior wisdom of the masses’ ensures order and justice...”. This is just so much rubbish. As we should know after living with falsehoods for fifty years now. Truth does not triumph; unless it has champions to propound it, unless it has armies to defend it.”

The question is...

Have any here gone to military and retired military blogs and heard what they think of this.

I friend of mine has and notes the potential massive resignation of commissions upon renewal dates of officers. The potential of a huge brain drain/leadership drain may occur. Of course being the Machiavellian Alinski-ite that the Bamster is, maybe that is his plan after all.

You don't want gays in the military, yet you're perfectly comfortable describing a salirophilic domination fantasy centered on Barack Obama's buttocks and/or anus on the internet. Hmmm...
