It is truly ironic right now that one of the things Republicans are trying to reclaim is fiscal responsibility, because most GOP lawmakers in the Congress never really embraced it.
But there on the Senate floor Monday afternoon was one GOP member who has always been against earmarks, always taken on the establishment, always tweaked members of both parties about excess spending.

here’s the problem with the McCain amendment. While I don’t doubt John really does want to get rid of pork, has he always been outright vocal against it and tried to reform the Senate. He might be, I just haven’t paid that much attention to him. As far as the vote was concerned, there is no way to know if those repubs in the senate really want fiscal accountability or if they voted for it for political reason to make a statement.

McCain has always been against pork.
And even though I had differences with him, he’s no RINO. There’s no comparison between him and Snowe-Collins-Specter.
We had divided government during Clinton’s last 6 years.
I wasn’t talking about mccain but he did oppose much of Bush’s spending agenda (medicare part d, farm bill, etc) all by himself.
