We Americans like to build mythologies around our historical heroes, the Brits seem to relish the eccentricities, so it’s a tough thing to compare.

Look at Jefferson with Sally or editing the Bible. What the hell was editing the Bible about?

Franklin, of course, had his illegitimate son — nobody knew who the mother was.
