WASHINGTON (AP) - Two days after calling Rush Limbaugh a mere "entertainer" with an "incendiary" talk show, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele apologized and acknowledged the radio commentator as a "national conservative leader."

"To the extent that my remarks helped the Democrats in Washington to take the focus, even for one minute, off of their irresponsible expansion of government, I truly apologize," Steele said late Monday.

Steele's statement capped a remarkable weekend of awkward sparring between Republican officials and Limbaugh, who has repeatedly voiced his desire that President Barack Obama's economic policies fail.

This all about power and control thing, is WRONG. Why do they think "Joe the Plumber" and "Sarah Palin" made us all so hyped up???? Yep, just like Rush said, "the COUNTRY CLUB Republicans" look down at "the little people".... Well, the sleeping Giant is waking up, taking some time from their jobs, and being heard.

Here's what I yelled into the megaphone at our Tea Party...: WE HEAR YOU RICK SANTELLI - THE WHOLE NATION HEARD YOU - AND THE PEOPLE THAT DID THIS TO OUR COUNTRY WILL HEAR FROM ALL OF US NOW!!!

Keep fighting the good fight.

I called and called and called the RNC today........no answer until shortly after 2:00CST and of course it was some ‘wet behind the ears’ person. I proceeded to unload and then asked for my recent contribution back. I haven’t given to the party in years but the night Steele was selected I was fairly happy at the choice; some others on here seemed to be dismayed however, but I wasn’t ready to throw him ‘under the bus’. I’M READY NOW. No good bastard. And what is this relentless pursuit of taking Rush’s comments out of context??
Steele apologized? BFD.....’out of the mouth proceedth the thoughts of the heart’
RESIGN STEELE!! You are not what the party needs or wants!

The insults to Rush notwithstanding, Steele is starting to alarm me with his “big tent” talk and scary plans for incorporating hip-hop into GOP strategy. Winning over others is something to be strived for so long as we don’t compromise or conservative values one iota in so doing. Watering down our principles creates RINOs and RINOs breed defeat.

Heeheeehee I was thinking I said Steel.
# “ A generally hard, strong, durable, malleable alloy of iron and carbon, usually containing between 0.2 and 1.5 percent carbon, often with other constituents such as manganese, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, copper, tungsten, cobalt, or silicon, depending on the desired alloy properties, and widely used as a structural material.”

"I respect Rush Limbaugh, he is a national conservative leader, and in no way do I want to diminish his voice," Steele said in a statement late Monday. "I'm sure that he and I will agree most of the time, but will probably disagree some as well, which is fine.

"The Democrats are doing everything they can to find ways to take people's attention off of their massive 36-billion-dollar-a-day spending spree that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have embarked on. To the extent that my remarks helped the Democrats in Washington to take the focus, even for one minute, off of their irresponsible expansion of government, I truly apologize."

Steele didn't apologize to Rush with those words. Steele's original remarks had less to do with disagreeing with Rush as they did with launching a personal attack against him and his show. Steele just made matters worse with this non-apology.

No! He got spanked and realized that he cost the RNC alot of dollars!! Just like Rush said, he,s not the head of the GOP, and the RNC is supposed to be run by the people that are truly conservatives and apparently he isnt, or he would have never said anything!!

If he is such a smart guy, why didn’t Steele apologize to Rush directly about his remarks? Steele hasn’t learned from his mistakes, that is the problem. I do have a problem with an RNC chairman who supports affirmative action. That is not what this party is supposed to be about. We had Mel Martinez who supported amnesty and now this bozo. No wonder the party is in shambles.

Gads, it amazes me that statements can get so screwed up. It sounded to me like Michael Steele was sorry that the Dems were using what Rush said to take the focus off of their terrible policies. Skewer Rush to overshadow their incompetence.

Just like how they smeared Joe the Plumber. Smear the man, and avoid the criticisms.

Hello fatima, I’m sure we agree on tons of other stuff, but we don’t have time for Steele to get his footing. He sold himself as being ready to represent Republicans. He didn’t say he would be an apprentice. If he can’t do the job, he should be man enough to say so now, and resign.

That’s quite evident.

Rush defends conservative thought and principles. You may not care what he says, but millions of conservatives with money and time DO. So defend the RINO Chairman but understand you are going to have to work all that much harder to find people willing to step in and donate their resources to help him after this. Not only for the hateful attack on Rush and complete ignorance about what Rush’s show is about and how an attack on those principles is an attack on our own, but for agreeing members of a GOP convention resemble Nazi’s.

Thats alright with me, but apparently you are in the minority, because I feel just like most of the posters on this thread, and that is that Michael Steele is a Rino, and thats not what the true republican party needs, because we have too many of them, and they need to be weeded out!!

Michael Steele doesn’t have to answer to “a radio host”, he has to answer to us, Republicans. And he heard from many of us in the last 24 hours.

I don’t have to find anyone.I represent myself.I sat down at dinner with a young man and the news was on and he saw Rush and said he was a drug addict.I like Steele and he is pro-life and he leads a good life.Rush is OK in some ways.I would say let this die down.Rush is flaming the fire so he gets on national news.
