WASHINGTON (AP) - Two days after calling Rush Limbaugh a mere "entertainer" with an "incendiary" talk show, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele apologized and acknowledged the radio commentator as a "national conservative leader."
"To the extent that my remarks helped the Democrats in Washington to take the focus, even for one minute, off of their irresponsible expansion of government, I truly apologize," Steele said late Monday.
Steele's statement capped a remarkable weekend of awkward sparring between Republican officials and Limbaugh, who has repeatedly voiced his desire that President Barack Obama's economic policies fail.

All Steele needed to say was that Rush does what he does and does not speak in an official capacity for the RNC. Period. This schism is not helping us.

Steele is sorry.
And he apologizes too.
Do the party a huge favor, and resign.
Now he needs to apologize for not calling Hughley an idiot about his nazi germany comments.

Americans are going to want to strike back at this Socialist BS in 2010. It sure looks like we aren’t going to be able to use the GOP to do it. I think we need an American or Conservative Party.
Sadly, conservatives are being betrayed by the very people who want us to support them and give them our money, time and talent.

As soon as I read he was weak on the second amendment I knew Steele was a RINO. He was only chosen because he was black. How superficial!

Rush has got to be loving this. Man o man but he knows how to work the crowd. Look at how much mileage he’s gotten out of the “hope Obama fails” comment. The man is a master of promotion. They can’t stop talking about him. The guy earns his money.
Rush took Steele to the woodshed and blistered him and said what needed to be said!! True conservatives are not RINO,s!! We have enough of them already, and its ruining the party! I guess he got his feelings hurt!!
Why would Michael want to work with a bunch of Nazi, anyway?

I've written and called and told my local GOP leadership to take me off their list for $ and precinct walking.
I AM A CONSERVATIVE FIRST.
...and they can blame Steele for drawing the line in the sand.
Steeles #1 job is fund raising. He should be fired if he’s not smart enough to realize this kind of comment is diametrically opposed to his job.
