GOP chairman apologizes for Limbaugh remarks

WASHINGTON (AP) - Two days after calling Rush Limbaugh a mere "entertainer" with an "incendiary" talk show, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele apologized and acknowledged the radio commentator as a "national conservative leader."

"To the extent that my remarks helped the Democrats in Washington to take the focus, even for one minute, off of their irresponsible expansion of government, I truly apologize," Steele said late Monday.

Steele's statement capped a remarkable weekend of awkward sparring between Republican officials and Limbaugh, who has repeatedly voiced his desire that President Barack Obama's economic policies fail.

I’m “sorry” too. I’m sorry I gave this thinly disguised RINO the benefit of the doubt. Thank God he’s self admittedly “inarticulate” so this would be brought into the open now before we, or I, actually was persuaded to open my wallet for them again.

RNC, nice try. But your boy screwed up and let us know exactly who and what he is. NOT A DIME.

Look at how much mileage he’s gotten out of the “hope Obama fails” comment. The man is a master of promotion.

It's amazing how far a little straight talking no nonsense truth will go.

Well, it’s gonna have to do.

We are in the process of remaking the party from a Bush/McCain compassionate conservative party into its rightful conservative roots.

Primary season is coming up. Let’s make sure we recruit good conservative folks, and we’ll keep Steele in line as well.

If they are weak they need to join the democrats. Period.

Limbaugh is too soft in my opinion. So, to criticize Limbaugh - other than saying we need to be more intense, is a sign of weakness.

I hope Obama fails. Oops, there I go promoting myself. I probably don’t really mean it, I’m just trying to get attention. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

I say Steele has now gotten the message from us conservatives.. I’m sure going to give him a break and see how he does in the next 6 months.. let’s not shit him yet because he stumbled.. but lets see how he does in the next 6 months.. then we’ll see

I think he is a smart guy and will learn from his mistakes.. let’s give him a break here.. my humble opinion

Yup, he should resign. I will not be sending money to the RNC. I sent those Gringo Dollars to the last guy when they pushed Amnesty. They give it to the RINOS. Mitt Romney has a PAC that sends money to conservative politicians only. That’s for me.

Thanks for your kind words! I cannot even get anyone at the Indiana GOP to talk with me. It’s the big fish in a small pond syndrome here in Indiana. It’s unreal.

This was no stumble. He articulated his POV of Rush, the makeup of the Republican Party and conservatives in that one interview. Then in his “apology” he further compunded the error by offering regret IF anything he said was found offensive.

He’s done.

The GOP can keep him as Chair but I will remain a free non participant of that particular group. Fundraising letters will remain unanswered.

Sounds like a plan.

I think Rush puts more art into it than that. Lots of talkers “talk straight” on their shows. But Rush has a special gift for creating buzz. For tweaking people. Operation Chaos was another recent example. He’s being honest and true to himself. But he’s doing so in a way that is very clever and designed to get a reaction. He’s a master.

“...I truly apologize,” Steele said late Monday.”

Did someone whisper sweet nothing in Steele’s ear?

Will that man stop apologizing already? Rush is a big boy, he can defend himself; just get busy going after Zero - that’s all you have to do!

I hope Obama fails. Oops, there I go promoting myself.

You'll have to be more original. That line's been taken.

I probably don’t really mean it, I’m just trying to get attention. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Oh I get it. Yeah, that's sarcasm. As in wit. You misunderstand my point. Rush definitely means it. But this is a great example of why he is so much more successful than his peers. I am sure he would agree. In his business, it's not enough just to express the idea. He manages to do things that generate news. He tweaks people in such a way that they can't stop talking about it. Like he did with Operation Chaos. His job, as he describes it, is to attract and hold listeners. He does so all the while expressing his core beliefs. But he knows that's not enough. You have to do it in a compelling way. A unique way. A way that taps into the culture. He's THE master. He's getting constant attention. I'm sure his numbers are going through the roof.

So unbunch yer panties already.

So the AP is standing with Michael Steele? Maybe it is time for him to go.
