I used to listen to Paul Harvey News back in the '80's every day during lunch. One of the things I recall about him was the way he handled stories about left-wing moonbats. At the end of such stories, he would say (referring to the moonbat in question): "he would like us to mention his name." Then he would allow a couple seconds to pass in silence, and say "page two!"

One of my favorites was when Harvey would tell a story about someone doing something stupid, like bungee jumping over the edge of the Grand Canyon: He say something like: "He tied the bungee cord around his waist and jumped.(pause), He was 41."

Paul was a master of the art of radio - the ‘theatre of the mind’ and all that.

Too many of today’s DJ’s and people don’t know how effective the well-chosen silence can be on radio. They’ve been brainwashed into thinking that a “second of silence is a second of revenue lost!”

My favorite Paul Harvey zinger was when he was doing a story about the Cook County (Illinois....Chicago) burning several tons of confiscated marijuana in a blast furnace on Chicago's South Side.

The press had been invited to watch the whole thing from outside the mill.

Paul Harvey said that it emitted a huge cloud of smoke....just as some seagulls were flying in from Lake Michigan,

"and when the smoke cleared away, not a single tern was left un-stoned."

"Good day!"

Paul Harvey was definitely a "personality." He had a wit that was somewhere between Will Rogers and Bill Buckley. He was never harsh or insulting, but you didn't want him to get word of it if you ever did something really stupid. Best of all, he did it in a way that even his enemies must have found charming.

Good rest to you, Mr. Harvey. Job well done.

I know about this riot but only discovered it after my mother died. I doubt whether she ever heard of it. My grandparents moved to Tulsa from Independence KS about the time she was due to start school, in part because Independence KS even back then had an integrated school. Not proud of that fact but there it is. In fact, the only place in Kansas that did not have integrated schools from the beginning until Brown v. Topeka Board of Education was Topeka and that was because they were a large enough population to have a truly separate but equal school system. That’s why the test case was in Topeka - it eliminated the other issues and brought it down to only the issue of separate. Little histououre as Rush would say.

Pregnant pauses ... a magnificient voice ... oh, how we'll miss you Paul Harvey.

Is it a divine message to us that you died just as our country is beginning down a path of destruction from within our government? I am remembering If I Were the Devil

Yep, Ol' Scratch is at work.

Some may think this is over the top, but I consider him the conservative "John The Baptist" to Rush Limbaugh as far as big conservative media voices are concerned!!! He was the first big conservative radio personality, going before as a "voice, crying in the wilderness!"

One day he condemned Rush for talking about women "farding" in their cars!!! Said he was glad WLS, his home station had cut-off Rush's show to protest. Now-a-days, had he said farting in their cars would not even cause anyone to wince or even flinch!!!

Times have changed. Paul Harvey was loved, especially by aging Americans trying to hang on to the best days of America's proud, righteous and victorious existance. I'm glad he won't have to witness what may be coming. It would break his great heart... his brave heart!!!

He believed in Jesus. He’s in heaven with Him now and his wife who died last year who was also saved.

We who are born again will see them again. :)

The state of our country may have been too much for him to endure. Another great American icon is gone. God speed Mr. Harvey. May God rest your soul.

I think it could have been a part of that plus the loss of his wife, Angel. He was one class act and will be hard to follow, I wonder if his son will take over?

Imagine what he saw during those 90 years. Horse-drawn buggies to Maseratis, quill pens to laptops, etc.

I always listened to "the rest of the story". The one about the guy who invented the Buick, I related to a friend 'cause it was a very inspirational story.

This country could use some optimism about now. Wouldn't hurt to be reminded of the great things we've accomplished and those that lie ahead. This is probably what draws me toward Sarah Palin over others in contention: she epitomizes the glass half-full. Heck, her cup runneth over.
